What are peoples thoughts on "stealing" In the gallery?

Well I'm gunna just say it....I feel like creations are being stolen. If you download from me or anyone else I don't feel like you should re-upload the creation. If you modify the creation (example: change furnishing in a home, change a sim slightly) then you should always credit the original creator in the description. I know that some feel like this is not an issue, and that when you up-load something it is for others to use. Which I agree. Things in the gallery ARE for other people to use. Use in their game....not use to re-upload into the gallery so that they can get some downloads. There has also been an increase in "stolen" things receiving Maxis Faves. I think it would be a good idea to have a way to not allow re-uploading. I know that there is the original by tag, but it seems like that is not enough. It is very easy for people to get around the original tag and remove it from the creations. Some people I'm sure disagree with me, but this is how I feel about the subject of things being stolen. It has happened to me, which is why I feel pretty strongly about it. What are your guys thoughts? Is it theft? Admiration for the creation? Or just not a big deal?

Lemme know :)

Please don't be hateful towards one another in this thread. I'm hoping to have a very civil and adult debate here. Lets keep the Zagadoos to ourselves and just talk about it.

Search the gallery under EA ID and put your gallery name in.

I mean how do I get into the gallery to search it?

@jimmysnan Here's the link to your gallery:
    https://www.thesims.com/ru_RU/gallery/browse?category=all&searchtype=ea_origin_id&sortby=newest&time=all&searchquery=jimmysnan&max=50&maxis=false

I've seen both parks. You did great job on the original. But the most important for me was that you gave credits to the original creator - that's very nice of you.

That is the only fair way, I did not create it first, I did not even think of it, but I wanted to use it near my school so it had to be smaller, the smaller park I needed so I revised it. I need to put it there as I have had to re-do my computer a few times, see, windows 10 gives me fits sometimes, and I have to re-do it, so I would lose everything otherwise, so my favorite things go onto the gallery so I can keep them.

I just saw where someone took one of my sims Gunner Prosper and have their name on it. I never thought of my sims being good enough for anyone to want to take credit for them. Kind of made my day!

I'm not sure how that goes... I can imagine people download a house, adjust it and someone says: "Wow, that looks great what you did to it, can you upload it for me to the gallery?!" I'm not sure if you can see who the original creator is..? Because if not, I can imagine you won't remember. If you can then yes, it would be the decent thing to do to add that information to the upload. But I kind of can imagine people forget that in the process of playing and building and adjusting and sharing. I don't think it's always meant as stealing.

It happened to me I think. I downloaded lots of sims in the beginning and changed them up and used for my own game. Since then I have changed them again and gain and again, and only in the last few months I've been creating and uploading both new sims from scratch as well as some of the changed sims. I don't even remember if they look anything like their original self (or if they even are the original gender) and the name of the creator has long been gone. It's very hard to keep track of this.

When you change a sim, it's your sim isn't it ;)? It's not like they have DNA or something.

    > I disagree with those that are saying "once you upload, it's not your property anymore" or "it's Maxis's property". No. The simmer who created the sim/room/lot built that and uploaded it from their account. It's EA/Maxis's game, yes, but the creation still belongs and is credited to the individual that created it. I understand you could still view it as ownership by the developers of the game, technically, but I doubt that's how EA/Maxis looks at.

That's exactly how EA looks at it. You "own" nothing you make in game, legally speaking. Nobody may use the environment created by EA/Maxis without them having full, legal ownership of it. EA/Maxis will not look at it beyond that. They do not care who "owns" it in the non-legal sense; that is why they don't prevent re-uploads or take punitive measures against users who re-upload. If they were concerned at all with the alleged belonging or ownership to any given user, they would protect their uploads. They do not.
  • I am more concerned about people claiming cc and mods than reuploading sims that you made in the game cc free from the gallery. When you put sims in the gallery for others in public to us, they technically don't belong to us anymore and giving permission for others to do what they want. You are already using Maxis and EA's work, so it belongs to them really in the end if you think about it.

Can you be upset about it? Sure, Some of my sims, buildings, etc... I especially made for myself; but I knew as soon as I shared them, that people might change or edited them and if I didn't want that, I wouldn't have shared them. Though it would be nice they still kept some of the tags and credit me, it isn't the end of the world either.

This subject has been discussed at great length in several threads and it has never ended well as the conversations always turned into heated arguments. This is something we are looking to prevent on this forum. Additionally, this thread was necro'd. Because of these reasons I'm closing this thread.
