This is a nice idea for a thread.
One thing I always do is to level up Charisma skill early on, to level 4; so that the sim can do a Cheerful Greeting when meeting new sims, and Brighten Day, Heartfelt Comment and Flatter.
A lot in the game depends on the level of relationships and the skill, so this is an easy way of making use of that.
Edit: the game is made to be very simple, probably for perhaps interesting reasons; but one way to further facilitate the speed of learning that I do, is to always use the lot trait Convivial.
