As far as the story is concerned, Alex will probably remain without his voice for a very long time. Eventually, he might get it back if Damion chooses to return it. That's extremely unlikely to the point it might never happen, but it is a possibility however slim.
For gameplay, I still want to see everything a sim without a voice can do. So far, exchanging your voice for a sea witch spell isn't the end of the world and has made certain gameplay more interesting or challenging. It's definitely helped me look at the game differently.
Even though Alex can't speak or sing, he's not without music in his life. He can still convey his feelings in the music he plays on instruments. So, Alex is still making do with what he can do.

And for right now, Alex isn't brought down by his limited ability to communicate and enjoys the freedom that comes with his deal with Damion. While his younger brothers and cousins may never go on land, Alex gets to enjoy shapeshifting into his human form in spite of Kemps's powers over the pod.

My next update is going to be a big one. So, I'm writing different parts in stride. I found these screenshots, and I'm not sure about what I'm going to do with them. Alex does seem to love playing music on an instrument, but that's the merboy in him.
