Hello, fellow German! If you're referring to the thing that I think you're referring to, I believe they just call it the cloning machine.
As for me, I have sims in almost all careers (except for some of the freelancer and part-time jobs), but I, too, use the Scientist career a lot because it's one of the few that give you cool stuff to use at home, other than just emotional decor. I also seem to have an unhealthy obsession with military careers, with a disproportional amount of cops, soldiers, space rangers, and secret agents on either side of the law. Artistic careers such as writer, painter, musician or actor would be the second most frequent, and most of my sims tend to have at least one creative hobby even if they don't earn any money with it.
