In my story, Schemes & Dreams, the Landgraab’s are a crime syndicate. Nancy and Malcolm are, Geoffrey is a non-factor in the story. His only contribution and claim to fame is being married to Nancy. The syndicate they run was founded by Nancy’s family. She took over as head of the syndicate after her father died. Malcolm is in line to succeed her if she doesn’t kill him for his ‘stupidity’. Nancy looks down her nose at everyone around her so it’s an uphill battle to get her approval. Making matters worse for Malcolm is the fact that he was never supposed to be the one to succeed her.

Malcolm’s older brother Johnny was supposed to be the one to succeed Nancy, according to Nancy’s plans and she’s used to getting her own way. Nancy demands it actually. But Johnny was born to walk a different path in life. Johnny never had any interest in a life of crime. That was the first outrage for Nancy. The second was being transgender. From an early age ‘Johnny’ knew she was female. That set Nancy off and led to many fights and confrontations and Nancy got Malcolm and Geoffrey involved on her side. Since transitioning while still living at home wasn’t going to happen, ‘Johnny’ now referring to herself as Mimi began sneaking out, lying about her age and performing as a drag queen. Mimi is still performing as a drag queen while living as female off stage and deciding whether or not to transition, or more accurately when to transition.

Even though the Landgraab’s officially disowned Mimi, in a very public confrontation at the club where she performs, Mimi living her best life in defiance of Nancy’s wishes festers and eats at Nancy. Mimi doesn’t have the time or the inclination to even waste a second on the Landgraab’s. She’s out there living her best life and owning it!
