Haven't done anything with that family myself, but I've already solved the mystery three times with my own sims, and poor Jess always ends up as one of the first NPCs I see zombying around.

I didn't realise sims could actually be killed by the mother. I had two sims fight her on their own (first to see what would happen, the second time for a screenshot), and both times she pulled them up by their feet and slammed them into the ground, but they would always get back up with a dizzy moodlet after a little while. What happens when she actually kills a sim?
