What does the sims future hold?

I wonder what EA will think of next after those new packs? Next they'll tell us they'll bring back pool tables and pinball machines.

With the way things have been with sims 4 for the past 6 years, I no longer have high expectations for the franchise. Not even the idea of sims 5 gets me excited, people assume that the next game is going to somehow be better ,fix everything, and give them what they wanted. I would like to think sims 5 will be sims game everyone wants but there's no telling. If you see you still have to buy the same expansion packs again such as pets, seasons, university etc. Then there's no reason to believe things will be better or changed. But we'll just have to wait and see.

If TS4 was supposed to be an online game it must have been expensive to cancel that part and re-invent the game as an offline single player and a lot of development time was lost. What we perceive as deficiencies in TS4 may be due to shorter development time, or having to make do with components that were already available and needed to be used. Maybe the decision makers at EA are having a bad case of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole type of situation and trying to fit the sims into what they perceive it should be as a game, hence the never ending attempt to make it multiplayer, online, selling furniture and hairs by the piece, etc. TS5 could be better, if it returns to its roots, or it could be more of the same.
  • In a way I have some hopes since I doubt they'll be able to shy away from SOME form of Open World at least this time. And I doubt they'd have the gall not to include Create a World again as well.

These two features to me would already make such a massive difference over TS4, but still there's also the fact even if the game came out with all Sims2&3 in depth features, we'd still have to wait like... around 4 years before all the same content packs were released so it could match 3&4 content wise. Which is one of the reasons in some way I kinda want TS4 to die already so TS5 can finally come out and save us from 4's sad, sad engine.
  • I would like a pool table and a Casino wit Resorts. I really liked playing that in SIms3 you could design your own casino it was pretty cool.

The future of the Sims franchise in general is pretty bleak.
Knowing EA, you can expect the Sims 4 to go on for a couple more years with mixed levels of success and failure, then the release of a subscription based, always online, micro transaction laden dumpster fire that will most likely be the Sims 5 or simply the "Sims Online" part 2. If you think the Sims 4 is expensive, just you wait for the next iteration. You'll probably be paying real money for a couple chairs!
I think unfortunately subscription based is the next natural progression of this series. They're probably tired of listening to people complain about the prices of DLC, so why have any? Now you can pay for everything in game!
This is the trend of AAA games, from Bethesda to Ubisoft. And EA knows people will buy it, because EA knows how to make money.

I wouldn't bother holding your breath for this series, look at Paralives, which is very early development but holds some promise.
I think Rod Humble's project at Paradox is the most important thing to look out for. Paradox is the perfect company to make a Sims like game in my opinion.

Well if they charge forward items online I don't think I want this 5 then besides they already have that system with the Sims mobile I don't think they want to make Sims 5 the mobile game do you
