Lilith is the hebrew (early?) religion's first woman, before Eve. She and Cain didn't work out so she left and kind of became the mother of demons or something.
The fallout between the two is what gave God the idea to make a partner out of Adams own being (his rib). Lilith was a separate creation from Adam.
And pretty sure they're intended to be Italian or some variation of it, but mainly a play on the Salvatore brothers' name.
The Lilith character from the bible is also considered dangerous, devious, evil. Nowadays it's used to indicate powerful, independent, subversive women.- I never watched Vampire Diaries, not too big TV these days. I initially thought it was Italian also, but most of what I found on google suggested it was from India, with 800ish of the almost 1000 people listed with the last name "Vatore" living actually IN India.
But I'll believe it was meant to sound like Lily Salvatore, since google initially tried to give me results for that name and I had to tell it "no, I'm actually searching for what I typed in" lol.
I remember in Sims 3, I was so excited that there was a household in Supernatural based on the show Being Human, cause I loved that show.
I was just telling my roomate yesterday about all the fun pop-culture references in Sims. "BabySquare;c-15921084" wrote:
As they're vampires they might have some Hungarian or Romanian ancestry, a la Elizabeth Báthory, Vlad Țepeș etc
I mostly agree with the "derived from Salvatore" conclusion but "Vatore" also sounds like a corruption of "Bathory", in its own strange way.- susuwara8 years agoRising Adventurer

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that would be Romani. - susuwara8 years agoRising Adventurer

Wait, really? Which household was based on being human. I had the supernatural ep but never really played the supernatural world. - sobenewbie8 years agoSeasoned Ace

According to wiki:
Gypsies are believed to have arrived in Europe from northern India in the 1400s. They were called Gypsies because Europeans thought they came from Egypt. This ethnic minority is made up of distinct groups called “tribes” or “nations.” Most of the Gypsies in German-occupied Europe belonged to the Sinti and Roma tribes.
I was mostly thinking about the vampire movies when I was growing up, there were always gypsies in those movies. "asesina;c-15922865" wrote:

Yup, you're right. That's technically the Romani but some of them don't like the word "gypsy" being used to describe them."asesina;c-15922865" wrote:

As far as I know (and from what Romanians have told me EDIT: Romanians as in Romani) Romani and gypsies are not the same- 2 different peoples. There are also gypsies in other Eastern European nations, while Romani are native to Romania. If I am not wrong, historically they let gypsies in (like Poles let Jews in), hence the large population in the country.
As for the siblings, my first thought was Southern European. The last name sounds very Italian to me and the thread confirmed my suspicions.- OEII10018 years agoSeasoned AceBram Stoker codified the concept of gypsies, specifically the Romani, being affiliated with vampires. In his novel, Dracula, the gypsies act as the titular character's servants; caring for his property and moving his belongings to and from various locales. It is a deliberate use, as one of the chief undertones of the novel is the ethnocentric concept of foreigners, specifically of the darker-skinned variety, destroying "British virtue". Said gypsies bring the literal incarnation of degeneracy -- Dracula himself -- to the British homeland in a clear invocation of the xenophobia of the day. The more things change....
In terms of the Vatores, I have always interpreted them as being of Italian ancestry. "OEII1001;c-15923070" wrote:

Interesting thoguht. When I read the novel I never got that impression. I know that for the novel, Stoker used the works of an English writer who, despite never visiting Romania, wrote about it's myths and history. In her work, she stated that the word Nosferatu means vampire in Romanian- this is made up, because vampires and vampire-like creatures in Romania and Slavic lands were refered to, for the most part, as strigoi and upyr. Although I adore the novel, it has given a lot of people the impression that vampires are a part of Romanian mythology only, which is false.
