@sillyangel0906, I don't have the uncompressed textures option checked. What effect does that have on the game?
I'll field this one:
That setting enables higher resolution textures and consequently uses more memory.
How much more memory?
It depends what's on the current lot. If you've got a castle and a buttload of sims, lots more. If it's an empty lot with just your sim, not as much.
Good to know, thanks. :)- i play on low settings, macbook air 2015

I just got a new laptop for Christmas. Unfortunately, it was a gift from my dad, who knows nothing of tech (no offense, I told him to ask my bf for help if he went the laptop route, he didn't) so he goes to best buy and asks if this particular laptop is good for playing games. The sales guy apparently said ".....uhh... What kinda games?" My dad says, sims. Sales guy: "so not call of duty? Then it should be fine."
So i dont have high hopes for the thing. I wanted like a good gaming laptop... Even if i do just play sims and not cod.. I have everything on medium. I know nothing of tech either. I have draw distance on low (I dont think i need it personally), and all the other options like post processing, edge smoothing, and laptop mode all unchecked. Idk if my laptop can handle anything higher and I'm scared to check lol.

I think this is it
The problem with asking the sales people at a store like Best Buy (or any electronics store) whether or not a game will play on a certain PC is the fact that they'll almost always say "Yes"... mainly because they'll do anything to actually make a sale... but another problem is the fact that ANY computer can technically play any game (even something like Call of Duty)... the only problem is how well it'll run and which settings it can run on.
So, yes, your laptop can technically play The Sims 4... but probably only on the lowest settings. Also, it can't be promised that it won't crash every 20 mins or so. But yeah, if you can even play for just a few minutes before it crashes, the sales people technically didn't lie. They just never mentioned how well it would run.
I work at Staples... not as a tech sales associate, but I've witnessed the tech associates completely make up stuff just to make their sales happen. And because most customers who come in the store don't know much about computers themselves (hence why they ask), they always fall for it. - My laptop can run the Sims 4 at the high setting without much problems.

Runs smooth and loading time are okay. I haven't actually made it further then the 3th generation on this one, but I'm trying to reach the tenth generation with my current playthrough so I'm curious to see if the loading times will stay reasonable and if it might have an effect on the FPS later on? Yea, I'd believe that hah. But anything is an upgrade from what i had, and it runs beautifully so far with medium/high graphics, i actually turned them up and it still runs good.- I have a 2015 MacBook Air and I play on medium with laptop mode on. It's a tiny bit laggy but once you play for long enough you don't really notice the lag.
Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB
I didn't get this laptop with the intention of playing the sims; I got it for college (web browsing, essay writing, etc.) But then I thought why not try out The Sims 4? And it ran way better than expected! I do plan on actually getting a gaming rig pretty soon though. - Scobren8 years agoLegendI can play on Ultra on my custom built gaming computer. My specs meet minimum and recommended settings for both the base game and Cats and Dogs.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 16GB
Graphics: GeForce GTX 960
Windows 10 64-bit
Storage: 1 TB
2 computer monitors - The only expansion i have is Get to Work and my monitor only does 1366 x 720 screen resolution, but my 2013 video card (Geforce 650) handles Ultra no problem.
Fitting a video card is easy, provided your pre-built desktop has the ability to be upgraded. Search for "linus tech tips installing video card" on Youtube.
As it's not a demanding game, a midrange card with a single slot cooler and power consumption under 120w is going to be plenty and less likely to have compatibility problems due to
>not enough room in the case
>too much heat generation for the case fans to extract
>drawing too much current from the power supply
As a ROUGH rule, video card performance is closely tied to memory bus width and memory type.
Specs on both are available here -
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nvidia_graphics_processing_units#GeForce_10_series_2
DDR5 is twice as fast as DDR3 in graphics cards.
128 bit memory bus is twice as fast as 64 bit, and 256 is twice as fast again.
I'd personally avoid a card with less than 128 bit bus or that still uses DDR 3.
My 2013 Geforce 650 has a 128bit bus and DDR 5, which is likely why it can still keep up.
Looking at that Wiki article i mentioned, a Geforce GTX 1050 with its DDR 5, 128 bit memory bus should be enough for most people, and it only pulls 75 watts (should work in anything that physically has a slot to put it in). - bshag4lv8 years agoSeasoned AceI have an older model desktop, 2010 Lenovo quad core Intel i5 2.8 CPU, 8GM memory, 1 TB HD, with Nvidia 650 GTX 1GB video card and so far, so good. I hesitate to get a new computer anytime soon as I hate Windows 10 with a passion. The laptop I bought last year is a Lenovo, and it's a good laptop, integrated Radeon graphics but 1GB is dedicated. Plays Sims great but it still has Windows 10...I use it in business but not for Sims...that's reserved for the desktop.
- Depending on Lot Size/Total Items, I could play on Medium-High, to Very Low in Laptop Mode. (It's a desktop though) have all EPs except some stuffs packs.
Procie : i5 650 (@ ~3.2GHz) 2 Cores, 4 Thread.
RAM : Kingston Dual Channel 8GB ~1.333 MHz
VGA : MSI GT 710 2GB w/fan (Previously GTX 560 Ti = Ultra, but It got broken.)
HDD : Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5 (recently upgraded)
OS : Win 7 64-bit
MoBo : Gigabyte P55-US3L
Planning on buying new Desktop, when this one goes down. Probably soon though, since it's almost a 10 year desktop.
