If I remember right, they never said they can't make change to worlds. It was in a specific context, about changing the lot composition for example, which probably excludes landslide or canyon forming in the existing worlds and moving the lots, but the four seasons have never changed the size and the position of my home lot irl, so I bet my immersion won't be broken if they don't in Willow Creek either.
They would have to build different terrains to allow Sims to swim in an ocean like WB. I don't think they would do it and then they have said changing things in neighhborhoods could break saves. Their idea may be FX snow and not playable snow, we don't know. I don't think they would just make snow FX so existing worlds could have snow etc. but this is TS4 and they've made some weird choices I didn't think they ever would...like more of a mobile game than an actual multi million dollar pc game.
TS2 Seasons didn't have swimming in the ocean, so it's not required to make a Seasons EP (and I think TS2 Seasons was awesome ;))
It didn't need to add them then, we already had the ability to swim in our ponds and lakes as long as you understood how to build terrain around it to keep them from swimming across the lot. :) ETA: TS2 Sims could swim in water terrain paint.
That's not in the ocean though. Swimming in the ocean came with Bon Voyage."Neia;c-16221162" wrote:

Exactly a vacation EP. But summer means swimming in lakes, ponds and oceans for most who don't have those things near by. ETA: Point the code was already there to get them to swim in a water terrain paint. It's not in TS4."SerraNolwen;c-16221156" wrote:
@Cinebar Sorry, I just saw your quote. I probably shouldn't have tried to go for a shortcut. I'm aware there is sometimes rain in a desert. It just would be strange if Oasis Springs got as much rain and snow as other worlds like Windenburg. I just hope they manage to keep the worlds somewhat different if they add in weather and seasons.
I hope they know to add a toggle if they do allow for all seasons in all existing worlds. But I don't know if they can or not, to keep snow out of OS etc. It's a good toggle in TS2 where you can have summer all the time, so no snow if you don't want it. And if you do have it you can hide snow on ground in the game toggles not just the season toggle."Cinebar;c-16221168" wrote:

Swimming in lakes isn't the only thing associated with summer, and we already have the natural pools. They could released a Seasons EP with seasons everywhere, and release a vacation EP or GP with swimmable area in the destination world."Neia;c-16221182" wrote:

Natural pond is an object is it not? I don't remember. AKA pool. I'm talking about terrain paint. You dig a hole in TS2 you add water terrain paint. They won't swim in it if it's just grass filling, painting a hole. We don't have the ability to dig a pond or lake in TS4. ETA: You don't use the water tool but can just dig a hole and paint it with water terrain paint.
I'm sorry but most associate summer with swimming anywhere, cooling off, vacations to beaches if you don't have local beach near by. If you can't swim in summer what is the purpose or what would some do that isn't in game now in summer? Not much to add other than the heat and the swimming in oceans and lakes, maybe boating or something or ski jets or something but that is the pass time of summer in the U.S. Boats, and swimming along with a few festivals like a holiday. Sunbathing has become passe since skin cancer is on the rise."@Cinebar;c-16221152" wrote:

They already said Seasons is possible in all worlds, so I don't know why this is a thread. Lol.
Because TS4 choices have been weird up to this point. Apartments in only one town/city. Festivals in only one town/city. Darker skies/different stormy clouds only in one town/world. Collectibles only found in certain places in different hidden worlds/ or towns. Fish in only particular hidden worlds. I can see it's quite possible snow gets confined to a vacation town rather than in OS..just by the history of TS4 so far. And what I said is only minor examples of how confining it has become and it wouldn't surprise me if 'weather' elements aren't everywhere. ETA: I made the thread so people could vote now, so Maxis would know most would not want a different pack for every 'season', but in all existing worlds in case they are even thinking about it.
They said that if they introduced Sims 2 style Apartments they would be available in all worlds. And they’re still possible. Grant also said future worlds may have Apartments as well.
The focus was on living in the City, not living solely in Apartments.
CL focused on Skyhigh Apartments and it makes perfect sense why they aren’t in other worlds.
We were also told we could get more Festivals in the future. But the ones with CL focused on types you would find in the City, I can assure you if the tech is there, Maxis will reuse it. They lovvvvvve doing that. :p
And Sims 3 had everything else you mentioned, So not sure why it seems strange."@kremesch73;c-16220862" wrote:
I thought they also said they can’t make changes to existing worlds without breaking saves.
I wonder which it is. Can they add weather to all worlds without damaging the existing structure? Or is it merely theoretical?
From what I understand:
1. They can make changes to all worlds
And
2. They can’t make changes to all worlds without breaking saves.
In other words, anything is possible and it can be done. But should it be done?
Very curious to see how this one pans out.
That was in regards to squeezing more lots in I believe.
But they have made changes to existing worlds already. They’ve added more spawn points, they fixed some terrain glitches, they expanded the playable areas in certain areas. And modders have been able to do a lot, even including changing backdrops and parts of the world.
They even changed the roads in Oasis Springs via mods. I imagine Seasons is mostly overlays anyway. And rain is just a visual effect.
:)- It's the toggles affect that create the broken save issues from my understanding. Or at least one problem area anyway. If you all recall when they tried to toggle the alien abductions for people complaining they did not want that - it is when they discovered it broke saves - so instead they had to turn down the frequency of abductions in the programming so as not to break a save. They also learned after that experience (which I think was after Daniels post by the way) - any thing that gave us choices where it varied the game play by choice from the player on finished worlds also broke the save. I am fairly certain Daniel did not yet know that there would be an issue with things like that when he replied - because at the time he replied they did not know they had an issue.
I am fairly certain they are still trying to find a solution - but obviously have not seeing even though they programmed in pet control in the programming they choose not to give it to us. They also choose to raise the frequency of alien abductions in this patch too because since they turned it down hardly any of us that wanted them - got none. I again assume they only resorted to this choice because they still have not found a way for the game to toggle anything without breaking saves.
Seasons has a sort of toggle clock to change the seasons - at least it did in Sims 2 and 3 games (that's how we had choices) - so if the game still cannot use toggles - then how will each season change - never mind give us any control - with out breaking the saves?
Logically I cannot see how they will do this - Also if Sims cannot react to FX programming - how can we expect playing in the rain and snow that would be fx generated even work? You have to program them to do every thing but if fx only works on a loop rotation - which we cannot interact with our sims with - as it is just VISUAL programming to give an affect - then what do our sims just watch the snow and rain (they can't see or react to) through a window? We see the cars, trolleys, boats, floating ducks, fake animals, etc in the game - sims do not and do not react to them at all nor can we make them - so what is the point of FX generated seasons?
Our sim may as well be watching a seasons tv show - if that is all they plan on. I want snow that looks and acts like snow did in sims 3 - where sims can interact with it. When it rains they need to get wet and look wet. Seasons needs to improve not fake it's way through in fx. It's an ep not a stuff pack. We have enough fake fx in the game now - never mind fake back drop etc, and you want even more. Why not we just sit and watch our sims watch a movie then, for heaven's sakes. - MidnightAura868 years agoSeasoned Ace

I agree with this. Seasons should not be just fx backdrop. If my sims can not interact with it and react to it ala the sims 2 + 3 then i don't want seasons.
I feel we need more then Just seasons, we also need extreme weather, like hailstorms, snowstorms thunder/lighting, and tornados, also severe weather alerts.
What do our saves have to do with whether or not it's raining outside.? Even our Pets know inside the house from outside the house, and we know who gave them that knowledge.
So what area of a save might be affected by, oh it's snowing now the Sims don't know where they live anymore? :| I don't think so.
