The claiming as "dependent" thing should be available to any Sim in the household YA and up: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/comment/15765660/#Comment_15765660
Thanks, @luthienrising . According to that, SimguruNinja says multiple caregivers can be added, so that will be a huge help for my sweet, old grandies.- ChampandGirlie9 years agoSeasoned AceErr, I can confirm that any adult in the household can do it. I don't know how well they need to know each other but I had a non-relative living in the same household become the caregiver of a teen.
- Its the way so siblings can look after the toddler basically they will 'check toddler' s much as patents
- Yeah, I used it in my game of three siblings (2 YA, 1 teen), so the young adults could raise the teen. It's pretty handy.

There are some limits it seems. Sims can't just "adopt" a random child. My sim can't adopt his ex-girlfriends (teen) daughter.
They might have to have a relationship somewhere on the family tree for it to work.
No, my two YA sims had twins (curse you ley line!) and I literally could not take care of them, so I just sent them to live with the Bheeda family until they age up, and Arun was able to choose both as care dependents, even though they aren't related.- br0se9 years agoSeasoned AceOne of my male sims had an alien abducted offspring, and his wife (the stepmom of the child) was able to be the caregiver of the kid. Which I was happy about.
- It is an option to have anyone that resides in the house to adopt and care for the child like it is their own. Example, a single parent asks a new partner to move in to his house and they do. Have the new partner choose to adopt care dependent the single parent's child and they will care for the child just like It is their own.

In my game it came up for the toddler whose mother lived outside the household. His brother, also a toddler couldn't get her for caregiver. But that might be because he picked his uncle for this role. So, I think only one person can take on this role.
More than one can take on the role. I set Gunther Munch as caregiver for his stepsons Emory and Cameron Holiday (Summer had twins with Gavin Richards thanks to MC Command Center), then when they got divorced and Gunther moved in with my Sim with Emory, I was able to set her as caregiver as well. But Emory still shows as just a "roommate" to all the other Sims in the household. You also have to adopt as care dependent to have the Parenting menu show up if you have Parenthood installed -- parents (through birth or adoption) get care dependent by default, but if you've got any sort of step-parent or other situation (like an aunt/uncle or older sibling raising the younger children) you have to adopt the step-kids as care dependents to be able to use the parenting options.- I have a problem: The option to adopt a child as care dependant is showing up, but nothing will happen when i press it. What could this be?
- I think it only comes up when the younger is around another adult that they'v had interaction with, coz its only came up to me with the grandparents and friends of the family but not with a newly met sim.
I got real worried when i first saw the option come up coz i thought it meant the child went being taken care of properly, but then realised it came up as an option with every child i had :)
