Every Sims game since the original has been rated T for teen in the US.
Some packs have had different ratings (or more specifically, some packs have had ratings of E for everyone), but the core games themselves have all had T for Teen ratings for US ESRB ratings.
I do agree with your sentiment that the early games in the franchise did less pussy-footing around some things though, and it would be nice to have that back. I'd also like to see more violence in the games, personally. We have always had vampires, I want vampire hunters and stakes through the heart...just as one example.
