I think of my sims as living out time kind of like I do... I get to know them and like them (even the bad guys) and too much effort is put into them to see them die. I rarely even age up anyone past young adult or adult. If I've done everything on them I want to though I might put them in my library or just keep them in town and move on to play a different family. Sometimes they mentor or become helpers.
