It’s a joke. It’s nothing to do with lockdown. There are plenty of games getting patches (a lot more promptly than the sims 4 btw) and those patches aren’t fixing one thing and breaking six more things.
I'm not a game programmer, but I did script numerous websites, including the online community site with tons of info from my game. Latest addition is a visual family tree, which took one night to get up. When adding new stuff to any script, I'm used to new problems being caused. But I also know that most such problems are fixed quite easily - it just require that I *start* searching for the problem coding, and that I take the time to try fixing it. It might take 15 minutes or a full day, but will never solve itself unless I get started at the process. When knowing a script well, most tech conflicts are found and solved in "no time". I really don't understand how EA takes years to fix bugs, unless they actually *never* got the task started.
