I have one household per world and I play them in a rotation although they each have their own save. I try to make them so that they make the most of the world they live in, so that they’re all a bit different from each other. So I have some single career-oriented sims, some families with very young kids, some families with teenage kids, some sims who are really all about their pets and animals, some who do farming/gardening, some who are into all the eco lifestyle stuff, and some vampires. I really like this variety - and also having realistic gameplay alongside some fantasy elements. I tend to play premades, so I’ve chosen one household from each world that looks the most interesting or that I think I can use to explore all that their particular world has to offer.
I have found that I'm adding some pre-made sims to my poly households. There were three adult couples that I liked, so I aged them down to young adults and added them. And some similar other things. (I always have young adult sims, and I rarely stick with families with kids for very long.)
