I play out stories, usually with characters I’ve dreamed up. The story might be about the adventures of a 1960’s surf band, a wealthy singer going incognito as a beach bum, a guy in the witness protection program living with his FBI agents or, for two years now, a world of mystic beings at odds with the humans in their world. I generally have a main character and supporting cast in played households, and then I create a world of additional characters for them to interact with, and utilize premades to fill out the rest of their world. My “stories” result from a combination of game input and my own storytelling. I rarely play families, I never play ancestral lineages, and I only play careers that help tell my story. A save ends when I’ve explored all I want with that set of characters. My current save is the biggest one I’ve done, with a vast world to explore. I don’t expect it to end anytime soon. But, if they give us a band/music pack, I will definitely start a second save to revisit my TS3 surf band.
As far as gameplay choices go, I like to take my time with my characters, so I play with aging off and only age up when it suits a character’s story. I cheat as much money into a household as would be appropriate for that character. They also start the game with basic life skills cheated in. An adult shouldn’t need to be told how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Usually I don’t play premades, but in my current save, I decided to mostly play the supernatural premades and stick close to the lore, because it suited the story, and the game was basically inspired by an idea I had for Morgyn Ember. If I’m not playing a fantasy story, occults aren’t usually featured, at all.
I usually have a personal “style” in mind for my main characters and I try to dress them accordingly, sometimes with the help of CC. I also have a general aesthetic in mind for my game, and spend a lot of time in the gallery looking for the right homes, since I don’t build worth squat. I use mods that give me more control over my story, but try not to go overboard with modding every little aspect of the game.
