Regardless of what you are looking for in an apartment, the options are very few. There is not enough of any style. Not enough family size ones that I like, not enough single sim ones, nor young couples. Not enough high-end ones, not enough cheap ones.
Limits, limits, limits.
I agree and the layout, especially of some of the multi-story apartments makes no sense. For instance you can't remove the floor between the floors to create a two story view, say for a living room because the spaces don't line up with the exterior windows necessary to do that. In fact the floor plan/shapes of the more modern apartment don't make much sense in some cases. All in all this is a very good example of how not letting the player decide for themselves leads, ultimately, to disappointment in a game like this one. You can make apartments smaller to some extent but trying to create a "family" apartment out of what is available is very difficult for people who build all the time- let alone a novice and penthouses are not "apartments" in this game. They are just a standard house lot with the view rendered to look like you are elevated in the air. All of the novel apartment interactions are lost by and large to people wanting to play, especially larger, families.
