Where do I see my sim's Needs Bar?

Question

I just got the game and so I'm still learning where everything is squirreled away but something that would seem like it would be obvious I can't find.  I need to know where the Needs bars are.  You know, when they have to go to the bathroom, sleep, eat, etc.?  I get the emotions thing fine but I can't find the box that I think of as the center of the sims' lives.

It's all the way on the right on the Sim Panel.  The last icon is "Needs"or just hit "O"

Even if you play with the needs bars closed, any need that requires your attention will turn yellow and red, allowing you to spot it anyway.

I'm so used to micro managing my sims (their needs never go out of the green...LOL) that just watching them go about doing things without my control...is well....very disturbing.   I thought I was the Sim God here.  Not just an observer.
