Where is the island in Windenburg supposed to be based off of?

As far as I can tell, Windenburg is based of Germany and it mostly looks that way, with its architecture and scenery, but the island seems kind of out of place. Are German luxury resort islands a real thing that I’m just oblivious to? Even the foliage looks like it could be off the coast in America’s Pacific Northwest.

  • Windenburg is not only based on Germany. There is also a Scandinavian influence. The Lykke center is named after the Swedish and Danish word for happiness (The word Lykke exists in both languages but means nothing in German). Some of the names are Scandinavian like the Bjergsens with the typical Bj sound. The windslar neighborhood also has a British feel with the stone walls next to the roads. The amount of water on the map is also out of proportion if this world is supposed to represent only Germany. The biggest part of Germany is not a coastal region. For people living in Southern Germany the Italian coast is even closer than the German coast. On top of that the 'Pan' in the Pan Europa night club also suggests it is mean to represent a boader part of Europe not just one single region.

In short there is a heavy influence of Germany but it is not the only influence. Because of the Scandinavian influence I think the crumbling Isles are supposed to inspired by a Scandinavian island.
  • I don't think its really supposed to be based off anywhere in particular

just island to do what you want with
I'm using it as spot for Sims Medieval inspired thingies
  • Speaking of the island, I sure wish they would put ocean swimming there, and let us use the Sulani boat and jet ski’s there.

Yeah top 3 of places that should have boating/swimming option and just feel sad without

    1.Windenburg island
    2. Brindleton island and beach neighborhood
    3. Granite Falls
  • The island could be inspired by an archipelago (a set of small islands) which can be found here at the coasts in Scandinavia. There is also a Scandinavian family living on the island, the Bjergsens. Windenburg seems to have a lot of different inspirations from Europe.

I agree. I would love for Windenburg and brindleton bay to have a swimmable ocean. I know we can swim in more recent world but it is always a river, a lake or a pond. I would like an ocean in a temperate climate to be swimmable.

I always thought Windenburg was more Scandinavian, mostly because of the name Bjergsens. Speaking of swimming,The polar bear swim achievement only counts when sims swim in a pool, which doesn't make sense as a polar bear swim is supposed to be in the ocean. The whole swimming thing needs to be updated.
  • Ohhh okay that could make sense. Given that Windenburg was the third world, I can see why the Sims team intended it to be pretty wide in its theme.
