the newspaper is greatly missed in my games. the coupons for frugal sims, or gossip stories for extra 'fun' options was nice and that it only advertised a few of the available careers made it more challenging to get the desired job until a computer could be afforded
i like everything that has been said with bringing it back. give us: someone who puts it in the mailbox and if we dont collect it we get the 'u have too much i cant fit it in' statement, the coin slot newspaper machine thing which could be in every neighborhood or park, an online subscription for the 'latest news', or just outright give us back the magazines and new BB item: the magazine rack that stores them. im pretty sure magazines were in sims1 and could change a sims likes and dislikes

I think Sims should have to pay for their internet apart from house bills. No one gets a pc then magically connects to their job, the web, and or Sim Nation. If they want to be modern then make them pay for that broadband or dialup. And they should be running around freaking out 'there's no internet'!. Super markets still sell tabloids, and I would like to see them return in TS4. And as much as Maxis wants to believe everyone has a computer and doesn't read the paper (our local gossip and current issues can't be found on the web) and has the internet just isn't true. Let me see you get a signal up in the holler over there, not going to happen. :D Better hope you got your copy of the weekly paper, or you won't know much of what is happening here. Let's all admit, not everyone wants to be 'connected'. Old folks will die out, but until then give them their paper and their tabloids and their TV Guide. And stop making them feel like a pc is the greatest invention ever, because it's not.
this is quite true. through various jobs ive had (telco and banking) not everyone, young OR old, has a PC or mobile. so for all sims to be forced to have a mobile is ridiculous. bring back the sims 2 option where we had to take our sims to a store and buy them a mobile but expand on it by having 'oldie' brick phones upto more high tech 'apple/samsung' options.
change the mobile that every sim has, to a 'family tablet' thats one tablet per household. like the mobile does now if john sim gets an sms, the alerts are on his sim. if we got the option to buy a mobile then create a mobile icon next to the tablet. the tablet could have all the house options like paying bills, moving, parties, vacations etc and the mobile has all the social call and sms options, along with the photos. both could have video and game options but have different games, and the tablet could have an ebook/kindle feature.
we could also have emails coming through on tablets where our sims could, as mentioned, pay for a subscription to various gossip/fashion/other type services, they could then log in and check daily or leave it a while and spend ages going through it all. they could choose from a daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly type fee or search through free sites. they could get mood buffs like 'juicy tea - sims are *insert mood here* based on the story' or 'eugh ads - sims are angry/sad/bored coz they browsed a free site powered by ads'. our sims can send emails (i think, havent logged on in a while to know for sure) so why cant they check them?
it would be nice if our sims bills were itemised to show what theyre paying for eg: $1000 bill = $300 for gas heating, $50 water, $150 electricity, $500 rent/mortgage. my water/gas/electricity bills come every 3 months and my remaining bills are monthly. id like my sims to have a similar experience with different bills coming in at different times. make them choose an internet plan when they move in, similar to the 'move in events' from sims3 but this time its more adulty things like choosing how many GBs they need each month. bring back the family budget and update it to show when each bill is expected or at least our daily expenses and add bill due dates to the calendar along with festivals or celebrity things like a royal wedding on tv.
back on topic (got heaps distracted sorry guys haha) getting famous involves more than just an 'online presence', as id like to think PR people would be trying to get their clients mentioned in paper and online mediums to reach the broadest audience they can. there are magazines that also provide other useful things like cooking recipes and puzzles which are easier to complete for some people in that format than on a PC.
