I think this game is great in build mode(seriously fantastic) and terrible in game play. Any pack that comes next should start addressing gameplay deficiencies. I can build for hours and I am frustrated with play mode in minutes. Simply put it is not fun when objects spontaneously appear in inventories or are sold from inventories. It is also not fun that the sim can do and buy anything from computer/laptop. Its a game. Where is the game play in that? I don't want to stare at my sim sitting at a computer. There is a serious lack of animations, sim interaction options, long term impact and challenge. The emotional system overwrites everything and creates happy clones. The system on which this game was sold (emotions) has not got any edits or upgrades in 6 years. some emotions are just not represented, for example scared. The robotic, uninspiring nature of sims is just plain boring. I was hoping that sentiments and lifestyles would change that, but I find it not impactful enough and a bit buggy. Here is why. It is simply superficial adding another blurb in the profile. For example sentiments are often assigned without any indication what prompted them. There is no notification or animation as to why a sentiment often happens. I had a festering grudge sentiment after a perfect date. Why? I don't know. It also did not impact the wedding after. There was no notice nor animation to suggest what happened. There was no impact on game play at all except for a mild emotion. After roughhousing seasons event my sim got into a fight, hugged it out and laughed about it. Afterwards I got furious sentiment. It made no sense. They looked happy about it so game animation did not suggest furious and if I wouldn't start the event myself I wouldn't get a prompt as to why it happened. Once again giving me no depth just more frustrations. Lifestyles are slightly better, but not much. My sim who is a doctor has to talk to people and gets a people person lifestyle in return. He's doing his job not being friendly. And there is so much more missing that just makes sims robotic. There is no likes, dislikes, attractions, meaningful impactful reputations, lasting relationships (if a parent dies and you delete the urn, it's like they never existed). While thinking about family member is like a bug on repeat. Sims relationships exist in profile, but doesn't impact gameplay. Basically no drama. I like drama. Then there is the issue of traits being nearly useless. It really impacts only if something is gained faster or slower. And there is a serious lack of reciprocity. For example an attorney can ask to represent someone, but a sim cannot ask to be represented. A klepto can steal, but there is no animation or interaction option for catch stealing. These are just examples of this game being very one sided. The game added groups, but they can't do much together. They go out as a group and scatter like roaches. I hoped that my snow bro can climb together, ski together etc., but they cant. The option recently vanished for snowboarding continuously together. And when it was there my bro did it once and vanished. Hiking was one of the few actual group options. You can go on a climbing expedition together, but need to build each sims skill separately. Then there is the frustration of not being able to just cancel a sim out a conversation. I don't want my sim to introduce themselves just to tell one sim to go away. I also don't want to cancel the entire conversation. This all comes down to lack of story progression. Sims 3 did the frustration thing of keeping memories of unimportant trips to the library, but sims 4 keeps well nothing. The seriousness lack of animations is viewable mostly when the sims team does make one and then repeats it so many times it doesn't seam like a feature, but a bug. The murphy bed kills sims at an alarming rate, naps destroy the neighborhoods, thinking about family member over and over again, eating at the pools and swimming in them happens so often I stopped building pools. The vending machines getting stuck is cute, but not when it happens every other purchase. So basically anything they do needs to address game play and not just by adding another skill to gain.
As for things to do. My favorite expansion was open for business in sims 2. Sims 4 retail feature needs work. I'd love to see a game expansion concentrated on work and play. For work expansion on retail would be great. I'd like to see more shelves, registers, displays etc so I can create more stores like a gallery to sell art (maybe have a gallery opening), hotels, resorts, craft stores, real estate, grocery stores, salons, car dealerships (add cars. I know sim don't travel, no open neighborhood, but again the animation of getting in the car, customizing a car, repairing it is another deficiency. See the sim just vanish is boring) etc. I'd love to see at least 3 stores on a lot (maybe managing only one at a time and renting store space.) I want my sim go to to a store and get stuff not have it spawn in inventory. I want more customer interaction option, employee options, management options. I want my sim to work in a store not just own it. I'd love to see more traits and better aspirations (even if not impactful) like schmoozer, gambler, slacker. Which brings me to play portion of this. Someone said amusement parks. Great idea. Give me something sims can actually do together (like hiking). Let my sim run an arcade, and go to an arcade. Give me a boardwalk, a shopping district (not magnolia promenade. it sucks.) I'd like to see aspirations like sales guru, employee of the month, fun enthusiast, Add careers like hotel/resort owner, real-estate agent, business owner. Add toy making bench, make a toy store. There is so much you can make in the game but t's missing game play to sell it. Give me empty lots to build on and store rental space. Add a boardwalk festival like independence day.
The next thing I'd like to see is farming. I'd like to see 3 neighborhoods:
1. Farms with a harvest festival
2. Wineries with wine tasting festival
3. Town Square with a homecoming festival and places to sell your goods like wine shops or grocery stores
Allow players to plant and harvest in large quantities so the can sell it in a farmers market. Add different grapes, add corn, wheat, etc. made recipes like home soup, biscuits, fried chicken. Add a canning station to make preserves. Let me sell honey at a market/store not just have it poof out of inventory. Horses might be too much so give players a chicken coop to collect eggs, feed chickens etc. Add careers like Farmer, Rancher, Wine Maker (brach it out into Vineyard Manager/owner and Wine Critic) Add aspirations like Cellar Masters, Countryside Explorer etc.
There is so much that should be added and improved in this game.
