I still very much enjoy City Living, even with having For Rent.
Though you can't really make your own like For Rent you still have the urban lifestyle that comes with it. I always think it's interesting watching other Sims below go about their life in the city. Going to the food stalls, watching other sims busk for entertainment and tips, the spice festival and playing basket ball. Just seems pretty immersive and filed with a lot of life that something is usually going on.
You have some careers that come with the pack like Politician, Critic, and Social Media. Various foods. Some you won't learn how to make until you actually try it and then you have things like Karaoke.
For Rent, I've enjoyed due to being able to make things like custom motels for my Sims to be in especially run down ones. Electrical problems, Water problems...ghosts problems all which you can call your landlord to try and fix or fix it yourself (to which you can be compensated by the landlord). I like the new appliances that come with it like the pressure cooker, drink try and the portable kettle which you can make single cups of coffee, cocoa, tea...
