Which packs do you recommend for me?

I am interested in getting some more packs the next time they are on sale. I already have Get Together, Seasons, Realm of Magic, Luandry Day, Backyard Stuff, Book Nook Kit and Blooming Room Kit. I really want to have a sim that lives in an apartment. I loved SimTower when I was younger but always wished the game let me explore my tower's residents' day to day lives more. I see an opportunity for that with Sims 4. Which apartment related pack do you recommend? For Rent (I have zero interest in owning a rental lot in game), City Living or Eco Lifestyle? I also like my sims to live the DIY lifestyle and got really excited when my sim electrocuted herself and died and again more recently when my sim died by meteor two days into the game on the day right before she was going to start at her first job as an astronaut. In SimTower I loved it when I randomly had to deal with a terrorist demanding money not to blow up my tower (because it broke up the monotony of the game, not because people in the game would die if I didn't do something) but I don't like to deliberately try to torture or kill my sims. If you have non-city/non-apartment related packs to recommend that suit DIY sim gameplay or add in more potential for random events that could end unfortunately (or fortunately) for my sim, I am open to those recommendations as well. So which packs would you recommend for a player like me?

  • I still very much enjoy City Living, even with having For Rent.

Though you can't really make your own like For Rent you still have the urban lifestyle that comes with it. I always think it's interesting watching other Sims below go about their life in the city. Going to the food stalls, watching other sims busk for entertainment and tips, the spice festival and playing basket ball. Just seems pretty immersive and filed with a lot of life that something is usually going on.

You have some careers that come with the pack like Politician, Critic, and Social Media. Various foods. Some you won't learn how to make until you actually try it and then you have things like Karaoke.

For Rent, I've enjoyed due to being able to make things like custom motels for my Sims to be in especially run down ones. Electrical problems, Water problems...ghosts problems all which you can call your landlord to try and fix or fix it yourself (to which you can be compensated by the landlord). I like the new appliances that come with it like the pressure cooker, drink try and the portable kettle which you can make single cups of coffee, cocoa, tea...

  • if you really like the idea of building and playing flats. For rent is the best option really. People keep claiming that is super buggy but I promise you, nowadays is not as buggy as it was back in the day. The only thing you have to keep in mind is to build in residential and after you finish it entirely, make it a rent. The other option is to furnish once you placed the family inside the flat, as you go with the gameplay. There is a limit of flats(6) after that... games gets crashy. There is loading screen in between houses. Yes, but you don´t have the annoying neighbours like in city living which still have loading screens. You really don´t have to use the owner rental system if you don´t want, it´s absolutely optional really. (Do not expect this one to have cross-compatibility with retails sytem of get to work nor the new business&hobbies ep. It simply doesn´t work)

But maybe you don´t like to build and just rather have a few flats and the city lifestyle. Then yes, absolutely city living is for you. But take in consideration they are limited and you cannot expand them. Lately the craziest update on it was the possibility to change windows. mindblowing it was not in the Ep from the beginning. I feel city living walked so that for rent run. City living, for me, it´s about the vibe, the new york vibe ya know? skyscraper to heaven for  ultra-rich people you can meet at the gym and the experience of art and coulinary events, every week. Which sadly, said events are currently super buggy but eventually they will be fixed.

Eco lifestyle.... really it does only have 2 flats, I believe from top of my head. the point is eco lifestyle has even less flats than city living. Eco lifestyle wins on the eco careers and lifestyle, the fact that you can make political choices, the eco footprint. This is where the pack wins not in flats. So if you are really into this diy thing. Eco lifestyle might be for you.

Eitherway, the best tip I ever got from anyone when choosing a dlc: Pick it based on your personal taste of style. For me, I am VERY MUCH into dark academia, decor to the max, boho, elegant, etc. And I am IN LOVE with the following: life&death, vintage glamour, decor to the max, crystal creations and high school years. I wouldn´t recommend to pick a dlc based on gmae mechanics cause chances you will be dissapointed.

  • TulipRogue  Per your question... I commented this past week on some packs I've enjoyed for changing things up, but I have to say, after the release of the new EP (Businesses & Hobbies), I have done a reno to the business I mentioned before where I did a retail 'live-in' workaround using Get to Work, and with this new Businesses & Hobbies pack living on the lot and running your business is so much fun, and it runs great!! If this type of play option is of any interest to you, I commented about using the pack on a different home I made and did a reno to run a bakery out of on this comment: https://forums.ea.com/discussions/the-sims-4-creative-corner-en/share-your-newest-the-sims-4-creations-here/1306802/replies/11977592
The obvious implication here is you could convert an area of a home you like into whatever type of home business is of interest to you, and the way it works has impressed me very much, and I find it to be much more fun to play this type of thing using this particular pack.
