Sadly this trend began back in Sims3. I recall feeling cheated by how the ghosts weren't even remotely scary. It was also too difficult for a Sim to die by fire. I know because I was playing a 'practice' family and I noticed the lazy Sim father (couch potato) was watching the nice big tv when it caught fire. Was anyone in real danger? No. I was also saddened that the Sims no longer grabbed their babies/toddlers and ran out of the house with them during a fire. What's up with that?
I don't make a habit of trying to 'off' my Sims, but still stuff happens in RL. Random, senseless stuff. Without the fear our Sims could die (which is half of the challenge to this game, in just keeping them alive), the game is just too invested in Happyville. Well, I'm not too keen on living in Utopia in RL, and certainly NOT in my game.
I implore the Devs, to please take off the training wheels and allow whatever happens to happen in our games. Okay? I find having copies of my Sims/families is a fantastic back-up. If the worst of the worst occurs, I can always start again. Might even play it out a tad differently, who knows? But we've got to have a sense of uncertainty. That every Sim isn't going to live 'happily ever after' no matter what we do, or forget to do in the game.
