I personally don't need it as it never did what I wanted it to do, but I think for 90% of people who play it was good enough. And if not worrying about roofs helps people get into building or become a better builder, then I'm all for it.
Also, some roofing tips from someone who isn't an expert builder. First roof the largest section you can cover with 1 roof, then roof the rest from largest to smallest, trying to merge the other roofs to the main one. Generally keep all the roofs at the same pitch and take the pitch on all roofs down 2 or 3 clicks, they look better that way. Use hipped roofs, not gabled roofs (gabled roofs are the ones with the bit of wall at 2 opposite ends).
