Why create a new save?

I start new saves every time. I create each save to tell a unique story when that story is done so is that save. A lot of my saves die of terminal restart-itis before the story plays itself out though.?

I have so many saves. Build save, own save to each challenge I play, own for each kind of setup. Some i deleted all premades, some are nothing but those. B)

I messed up my first save because I didn't know how to use MCCC. But I have been playing my second save since.

But I guess my question is, why start a whole new save with all the same starting characters just to manipulate a new world, when you can keep the save and all of the changes and a new family as the founding family of that save? That way, you can get cameo appearances from your previous family/families.

well it makes sense to do it if you want to, that's really the only reason there is just something that you want a different group for and maybe you don't want to see the same sims even if you want to play them. When you want to have more sims it could be you want your favorites to just be waiting for you exactly where you left them.

It's not always the same starting characters. Some saves I keep all the premades, other saves they get replaced with sims of my own. The only sim that usually carries over is my favorite sim, that's her in my profile picture and she is a chameleon. I have dozens of different versions of her, each with different looks, traits, aspirations, and/or careers. Sometimes she's an occult, and she has two alter egos that are much different.

This has been very insightful so far. Thanks to all for sharing. I'd love to hear more play styles; especially more that play the same save, for the contrast.

I know I usually start a brand new game when I've been away from mine for awhile and don't really remember where I left off.

I frequently play legacies, which means that over time (with some mod help) not only are all the original sims long gone, but the file has gotten bloated with several generations worth of sims. So I find it helpful to "start fresh" to clear out the accumulated crust.

Also sometimes I want to play the stories that require interacting with the premades (who, as I said, are usually long gone by the time I finish a story). Especially if I want to replay Strangerville (weird, I know, but I like it. It's like watching a favorite movie combined with a retelling of a favorite folktale) - those sims don't stick around forever, and while the do get replaced, it's nice to see it "as intended" sometimes.

Other times, I may need a particular world set up in a particular way to tell a particular story, that conflicts with how my current save is set up.(like my test save for HSY, where I've de-aged all the base game Adults and young Adults... only to realize that I now have way more than 18 teens in my save, and that's before the HSY sims get added.)

That and honestly, it's just cleaner. New story, New save. Like a blank document.

Right now I have 7 different saves, and every one has a different theme. For example, I have one save dedicated to building, and another one (my "serious" save) where I play just one couple--it's the only save I have where aging is on

I play on PS4, I make new save mostly so I have a clean slate each time, and given how laggy the game can get at times, I haven't tried any sort of generational or legacy except for the trophies...

Most of saves tend to be along the idea of "what goal do I want to set for myself this time?"
