Why does almost every pack want to kill my sims?

I've lost more Sims to temperature based deaths than I would like to admit. I had just realized that my Sim was freezing to death. He ran inside. His mood turned to happy and his colour returned but then he dropped to death in the entrance. My other Sim returned home from work shortly after but the way the Sim died blocked the entrance so she couldn't get in to plead with Grim.

I think the game needs more risk to be honest. Risk vs Reward.
