Why does my Sim do his cooking prep in the bathroom?

I just began playing in a very nice house I found in the Gallery. I had my Sim prepare some Scrambled Eggs with Bacon for breakfast, but instead of taking the mixing bowl over to the nearby kitchen counter, he carried it upstairs to a spare bathroom and mixed his meal there! Then, he proudly brought it back down to the stove and finished preparing his meal.

I noticed he only does this when the meal requires the mixing bowl. He didn't leave the kitchen to prepare Eggs and Toast.

There are some items on the counters--a coffee maker, a microwave, a knife board, and a paper towel holder--but there's still lots of counter space. There's an island with nothing on top of it. Here's a screenshot of the kitchen:

What on earth could be wrong?

  • Update: I decided to see what would happen if I locked the bathroom door. I started my Sim on another helping of Scrambled Eggs with Bacon, and he started working on the counter to the right of the microwave. Why on earth did he not do that first??

The cluelessness of Sims never ceases to amaze me...
  • Oh good observation @NorthDakotaGamer .
I have also noticed that often a bathroom directly above or below the kitchen will get recognized as "nearest" the fridge/stove. If possible, it's helpful to move the bathrooms on other floors so they aren't right over or under the kitchen counter area.

If you don't mind using mods. There's a mod called "Don't prep food where you angry poop" to control where sims prep food. There's also one for the sink that I like using to prevent sims from washing dishes in the bathroom. I wish these two mods were incorporated into the game.
  • That's a very nice looking kitchen. And huge. I don't usually place counters in my bathrooms, I prefer the standalone sinks, so I rarely encounter such heresy in my game. Also, I think sometimes it's an issue of first placed, first used object, that causes the sim to learn and use a certain path for his tasks. So just place and use kitchen counters first, and only afterwards add them elsewhere.
  • @NorthDakotaGamer @mightysprite @Darstep0301 @SnaveXs @crocobaura These are all very good insights/suggestions.

It is a really nice kitchen, which is one of the features that drew me to this particular house. I checked out some of the factors you mentioned, and here's what I discovered.

@NorthDakotaGamer The bathroom and kitchen counters are the same: S. Cargeaux Counter. Something else must be luring the Sim to the ones in the bathroom.

@mightysprite There does happen to be a bathroom sink above the fridge...but that's not the one the Sim was using! He was traipsing across the house to get to his preferred sink.

@Darstep0301 You might be on to something with the shelves. I might try moving the trash can to see if its presence is making the Sim avoid that counter. Then again, he chooses instead to use a counter that is right beside a toilet...

And the Hygiene rating of the Wunda Kitchen Sink is 4, while the rating for the Ovum Bath Sink is 3. So the Sim is selecting the sink with the lower rating.

@SnaveXs I've gently modded my game, so I might give "Don't Prep Food Where You Angry Poop" a try. Its name almost makes it deserving of a chance, doesn't it?

@crocobaura Since I downloaded the house from the Gallery, I don't know which counters the creator placed first. I'm tempted to take out the bathroom counters and eliminate that option.

This has been both a frustrating and intriguing problem to solve. Thanks for the help!
