Why don't expansion fish count towards the Angling Ace Aspiration?

I'm attempting to complete the Angling Ace Aspiration on one of my Sims. The last thing I need to do is, and I quote exactly, 'Collect 20 Types of Fish'. My sim has collect 25, but 10 of them don't count because they came in an EP, GP or free patch.

It's super frustrating to finally catch a new type of fish just to find out it doesn't count. It's also super unintuitive for some of them not to count. It took me forever to figure out why some were and some weren't. They either need to fix this to make all fish count or change the wording of the task to something like 'Collect All 20 Fish Available in the Base Game'.

I paid for a vacation to Granite Falls thinking it would be a fun way to get a bunch of new fish types, only to find that nothing I caught there actually counted.

As it stands right now completing the aspiration is frustrating and not fun. It's killing my motivation to play this particular sim because I know I'm just going to get frustrated that I'm not catching the 'right' fish to complete the aspiration.

  • Poor planning. It has to do with the coding and how the game recognizes the fish. Basically the aspiration is coded in such a way that it specifically needs the basegame fish.

To be honest they probably should've made it a % anyways, because if they did take your advice, that step of the aspiration would be a cakewalk and only get easier with time. A % ensures it remains decently challenging regardless of the amount of fish.

I personally wish the bait system wasn't so terrible. Fish in Sims 3 loved specific types of bait, making them easy to catch if you did the work to get their bait. Sims 4 has the problem where the bait types are things like "FRUIT" or "SMALL FISH" or "TANGIBLE OBJECTS." The result is you cast out your line and 80% of the fish want to bite it, and then much of catching the right type of fish in this game is based purely on luck.
  • I was disappointed in this too when I first got the OR pack, but as I play and more fish are added in with other packs I can see how easy it would become to get that stage done. They might nerf it or change it... but I kind of hope they don't at this point because it takes at least a little effort and planning to finish it. There are a number of guides out there too.. through Carl's site or others on how to find those elusive fish.
They do change up aspirations now and then too so maybe you'll get your wish .. recently the Outdoor Enthusiast aspiration was changed a little.
