I've read this thread before so today, after I created a new vampire to play, I was somewhat surprised to see him pull a pack out and drink at several different times when the need occurred. So, at least for this one, it does happen. He has the LONER trait so I don't know if that makes a difference because he would be less likely to go out looking for a drink.
Think some said it might have something to do with crafted plasma packs, so not sure if that is why since i had a lot of crafted ones to save money. But might just been that i tend to replenish thirst to often manually compared to when sims automatically do so themselves as another pointed out.
