Why is my sim catching fire so often?

She has cooking skills 5 and is preparing simple food. Every time she starts cooking she catch fire. It getting ridiculous. I checked lot traits because I think there is a trait causing this kind of things (gremlins?), but no, the only traits are Good schools and Filthy.

Now she needs to cook a birthday cake for the twin kids, but she seems to spend all the day in the bath tub getting clean after being on fire. Again and again... They resides at 2B Jasmine Suites at Spice Market. Yesterday the same happened to the neighbor - well skilled sim catching fire several times during one day when trying to cook simple stuff like a toast.

The Spice Market is currently heavily polluted, but I don't quite see how pollution should have a say?

What am I missing?

    Well, it is probably the cheap stove, but I use it in many houses and there were no fires to speak of until yesterday. Both "chefs" were elderly, but with decent cooking skills. The neighbor yesterday also has max Handiness skill, but still had 2-3 stove fires in one day. I had a feeling something was c hanged, but I did not patch anything since 2 weeks ago, so the latest patch can not be it.

    I'll keep my eyes open, there's somethin' strange going on, and someone might die...

    I have an elderly chef who was in the cooking career her whole life. She has maxed out cooking skill and knows every recipe in the game. She sets herself on fire multiple times a day while cooking anything from eggs and toast to taco casserole to gnocchi. It's the worst and it's irritating because she is my best cook. I used to have her cater my other families parties, but now she's useless because all she does it start fires.

    Maybe it's elders that start fires more. Maybe they're trying to simulate early dementia or something like that.

    That says everything. Industrial eco footprint increases the chance of fire happening. I have had it happen a lot, too. I thought it was because I had both industrial eco footprint and Cursed lot trait. But after seeing this... This is concerning.

    For me, it has to be nerfed. My sims has to start fire 2-5 times before they can successfully make a meal in industrial neighborhood.

    Cheat her the naturalist trait. Sims who have that never catch on fire.

    Yep, it happened in my game, too.

    Ooh. This is my problem. My chef lives in an industrial neighborhood.
  • Ah, the industrial eco footprint theory does seem plausible! Like I said, many of my households use the cheapest stove and even with low cooking/handiness skills they very rarely start a fire. All my fire starters that I can recall were living in industrial hoods... I just played another household baking a cake in the cheap stove + cooking a meal, in another hood that used to be polluted but currently is neutral, and she did not start a fire.

    So, it's possible that chance of fire increases with:
    * cheaper stove
    * industrial eco print
    * low cooking skills
    * random bad luck (not related to active sim)
    * being an elderly sim ?

    It might very well be a combination of things where elders adds to he "bad luck". I'll test a bit the next time I play a younger sim in a polluted hood, to see if they also start fires as easily as elders obviously do..

    My sim was a YA living in Port Promise and she started a fire every time she tried to cook! Her stove was really bad tho.

    Ha! You want your sim to catch fire?

    Depends on the sim. >:)
