Why is there still only 3 trait slots?

I enjoy the story creation myself from time to time for your second line.
For the first and the traits themselves, I have several sims with 10+ traits, but it's more to flesh them out to my liking, more than something that would give me game advantages. They're not very different than 3 traits sims, so my view on that is 'because that wouldn't fundamentaly change them'.
