I’ve used the story thing once. For the first Sim I used it with, it was ok. The rest, not so much. I often seem to get the Squeamish trait, perhaps because the Sims I create aren’t fond of bugs?
I’m not too bothered by the number of traits. You technically get four traits, the three you select and the one that comes with the lifetime aspiration you select. Then you can get bonus traits, particularly if you raise a Sim from birth all the way to adulthood and gain bonus traits like Happy Toddler/Top Notch Toddler, the bonus ones from completing the childhood aspirations etc. I played one save on Long lifespan where I managed to get a child to complete all four childhood aspirations, having previously maximised the toddler skills, so when she aged into a teen she had six traits already.
