Will the rats, roaches, and leaking pipes ever stop? (Resolved w/Mod! Updated Orig Post.)

The reason I'm asking is because I didn't realize they were there until after I totally remodeled that fixer upper "the TLC" apartment. I like what I did and I don't want to move. I spent all day remodeling that apartment plus everything is updated ( electrical, plumbing). My sim is neat and doesn't like the critters. ;)

It's a nice 2 bdrm, 2 bath apartment now.

See the links posted by member @pixiejuice in their post in this thread here.

I backed up my game files which I always recommend, placed the EnableDebugCheats mod. Loaded my game then proceeded to remove the plumbing pipes, electrical box, mouse holes, and floor drain. Saved my game then closed Origin. Clear my cache files then restarted my game. Went back to my save and everything stayed gone. Now on to playing in a regular apartment without all the additional nonscense.

Note: I'm still waiting to see "if" the rat pee odor or the roaches spawn later. I'm hoping neither will with the other objects already gone. But so far so good. I am one happy simmer!
:D

Those objects (mice/rat odor and roaches) did spawn again. I was able to remove both with the mod. I think the apartment is now free of all those items. However, I will have to continue playing to know for sure.

The link for downloading the advance debug cheats mod is in a post on MTS from weebusu.

I'm getting the sense that some of the stuff they are doing in this game is karmic feedback. (totally intentional and totally cynical)
Some of the stuff they are doing seems a bit too ironic to be totally unintentional.
I won't derail the thread with too many specifics, but it should suffice to say that the ability to turn this stuff on or off is already in the game, and it would have been no sweat off their brow to leave it optional everywhere.

So now this forces me to consider the reasons why they didn't....and some of the scenarios I am coming up with aren't pretty.
One of those scenarios involve the constant whining on this forum over the tiniest of things, and how they just might be sick of it...and it's starting to show up in their work.

Yeah Maxis has an agenda. They want their game to be played a specific way, and they make that blatantly obvious.

Remember when they added the horrific TV blur + screech for speeds 2 & 3? That's their way of saying "Play on speed 1" because that's the only speed it doesn't happen on. No amount of feedback has changed this whatsoever, because it's what *they* want.

Apartments are barely editable. You are stuck with what they give you, because they created them using tools we do not have access to. They were largely dismissive of the entire ordeal. The highly promoted "lot traits" are fixed to specific lots. Which is mind boggling because it looks like a modder already unlocked them for regular lots.

Maxis makes what Maxis wants. They ignore feedback, dismiss criticism, but expect a round of applause whenever they come out with something. Their latest EP offers zero creative control over the new features added, and half of the features look so watered down that it amazes me people will pay $40 for them. I don't know what they spent so much time on, because CL is a total fail IMO.
  • I agree w/those of you who do not appreciate not having control over whether the apartments have mice holes, cockroaches, dripping pipes and electrical box issues. I was so happy when the MC Command Center mod provided a way to totally obliterate all these ridiculous nuisances from our sims apartments.

If it weren't for our modding community, this game would not be playable for me. Now where have we heard that before? My Sims 3 game was heavily modded too in order to make it fun and functional. It's sad when a game developer takes the money from a game's fan base and spends it developing new generations of the game according to ITS vision instead of the loyal consumers.

Honestly, after a month of playing in the Spice District TLC apartment I quite like the problems- it's just a nice change of pace to have thing happen from time to time. Of course I still think it should be optional because HELLO EA/MAXIS I think everything should be optional and my choice but it just feels little more real- sometimes you get mice in an apartment building, even a nice one and the same goes for roaches if someone just nasty moves in next door-lol. I still haven't removed the spawners but my Sim does seem to be getting better at handling the situation- the landlord hates him and never helps! Ha!

By the way, that's not how the roaches in Florida work at all. Not even close. And they are extra large (and sometimes "friendly" and even if one is just two feet outside a perfectly nice grocery store that's not a public health issue it's NORMAL). *cries* Now I can't stand the thought of any type of roach. And I lived there for a few years and developed a phobia and serious mental trigger issues with them. I already had "problems," so developing new sub-issues is easy.

Since toddlers are here I am considering getting City Living but I need to never ever in my life see one more roach, real or fake. I will freak out and see things in my mind/dreams and won't be able to shut it off. I just want to cleanse my brain, but can't and need to avoid ever seeing one again.

I will NOT go into live mode in one of those apartments, that won't work for me, I will be too frightened. I don't know what spawns them and I will not risk it.

Even thinking about it and searching online has made me feel a little physically ill and worse mentally. :weary:

Are you saying that roaches might appear elsewhere in the world if I play City Living?????????????????????????????? :fearful: I thought I'd avoid those apartments (I hope they are clearly marked) and keep looking out for a mod. :frowning:

I DO want the basketball, and other city world/stuff, some lot traits (the base free ones are mostly cheaty and I hate cheaty, so they're mostly useless for most Sims, except the loner-ish one which is great for very few Sims), etc., though. I don't think I should have to do without basketball because roaches. That will shorten TS4 lifespan/playability for me. Eventually, toddlers WON'T be enough anymore.

By the way, I totally agree that everything should be optional. :frowning:

  • I wish I could handle mods. I'm just too scared to crash my game. I recreate my family in the Medina Studios and my "mom" lives in the "rat hole" of 910 by herself. :'(
