This is a tricky one. If you have too many happy moodlets that are boosts, it will make one playful moodlet affect all of them and thus, making the sim hysterical.
I've had this issue in some of my more prosperous households. The Sims are always so happy from high needs and nice surroundings moodlets that a toddler telling them a joke sends them into Very Playful. I keep an eye on the background colors for my Sims' icons and if anyone goes that pinky-purple color, I send them off to a mirror or to take a nap.
Moodlets used to be worse, but they changed them up a little. When Sims 4 first came out, moods flashed back and forth a lot. I don't like the mood deaths much, but it's so hard to die on accident in Sims 4 that I can't really complain. - Sharooonia6 years agoSeasoned AceI turned off emotional deaths with MC Command Center. It's such a dumb design choice to me and I don't want it in my game.

Yeah, they place far too much emphasis on emotions in this game. I'd prefer to see more interesting game play than these silly emotions ruling your character all the time. Another one I really never understood was getting angry over watching a bad movie. Really? Angry? I've been disappointed after seeing a bad movie but never angry. That seems a bit mental.
Perhaps you haven't seen a new movie in your favorite franchise totally ruin your favorite movie from the first six movies put out starring the Original Cast. Happened to me, and yeah, I got pretty angry over it. So angry, I refused to go out and see anymore of this newer casts' ventures. In fact, I spit on the director and producer of this crappola. Angry enough for you?
And just for the record a human can 'laugh' themselves to death. It triggers a heart-attack. Since this has obviously upset you, why not roll back a save to prevent this untimely death? Or, if you wish to play out this misfortune, regarding it as a twist in your plot, create another Sim to plop down into the household to save your game. Or, if it's already lost, consider remaking your Sims and starting over. I know, I know, a lot of lost time and the game won't play out the same way. But, if you're really grieved over the loss, this is the best advice I can give.
I tried to play forward after my Global Superstar's only sister and his brother-in-law both died Hysterical deaths in the span of the same evening. That left my Global Superstar and his 'girlfriend' in charge of his identical twin toddler nephews. Things went from bad to worse and I was certain Social Services would take the wee ones out of their home. Long story short, I restarted the game save. (I always keep copies of my Sims/families in My Library.) These two deaths were the very first (and second) emotional deaths in my game. Only happened a few months ago and I've been playing this game since release. I hope you're not advocating for EA to further dumb down the game by taking away one of the few random type deaths left in this game.
If you wish to eliminate all emotional deaths, I would advocate you install the MCCC mod. You can turn such deaths off. I reluctantly did so after my Global Superstar seemed targeted by the game itself! I rolled back a game save to see just what set off the fatal fit of laughter. Turned out his older brother told a joke … I prevented the death, but the game got him a tad later, killing him this time just as he was about to enter the castle. I finally remembered I had a back up saves folder. I changed that out, set MCCC to stop emotional death and have been able to play ever since, hoping EA might tweak it a tad, or at least fix the odd bug that targeted certain of my Sims. :open_mouth: - Babykittyjade6 years agoSeasoned Ace

What can mc command NOT do? Lol everyday I discover something new. I'm totally going to do this too. Thanks. - I don’t really have a problem with emotional deaths. Haven’t had a sim die by accident yet. It’s entirely preventable as well by sending your sim to sleep it out or calming them down via mirror.
In fact I’d say deaths are far too hard to achieve. I appreciate people don’t want their sims life to be taken away by chance but it adds more potential storytelling and makes interesting scenarios. Also with a bit of work you can resurrect them. Making a sim deliberately die just...doesn’t feel right. - Deleted
- I have no idea why this nonsense is part of the game.

Oof. This happened to the 2nd gen heir of an old legacy save I've since finished and deleted. She had twins. Just got married so she had that happy newlywed buff, her twins aged up, and she had a bunch of other random happy moodlets. New husband was at work, first day on the job as a cop.
One of her toddlers did something super cute I guess. I wasn't focused on the house and next thing I know the camera pans over to her as she's dying of hysteria. Grim comes and reaps her, kids are sobbing, I make the husband come home early. Shocked the plum out of me since it came out of left field.
That seems to be the way that emotional death hits. Strike right out of left field. - In my case I was having a super bowl party and was having to pay attention to multiple sims. I didn't even notice she was hysterical until it was to late and the death chime happened. She was the prettiest Sim I had ever had too. :(
