- It just doesn't work right. My biggest dislike is I don't like the way that everyone gets up and sits down every 2 seconds. One positive about it is I love that the Sims can get food poisoning.

Outdoor Retreat by far is the worst imo. The world's pretty, the build/buy's alright, as is the CAS...but there's no pizazz in it. It's really painfully obvious that it's the first pack, and like all of the first packs, it kind of sucks. Jungle Adventure handled the vacation aspect of the vacation world so much better. What's worse is that with seasons installed it's impossible to complete anything relating to the aspiration in a timely manner.
People hating on Vampires here just don't like occults, and like that's on them, but pretending that makes it the worst game pack when outdoor retreat exists with 1 skill, bug collectibles, campfires, horseshoe tossing and tents? lol. Vampires as a pack has solid build/buy objects, a creepy matching world, fun CAS assets, and an in depth system that brought more life to occults than any game had previously with the sims. The only other option here that's really a contender is Dine Out due to the sheer number of bugs, and the silly, silly fact you can't hire your own family members to work in your family's restaurant! Even then, the build/buy objects keep it a little bit higher than outdoor retreat for me, as with the fact that even with the bugs, your sims can go to restaurants without needing to own them.
Right, so I voted for vampires and it's not because I hate occults. I love occults! But playing a vampire was just kinda one-and-done for me, and the B&B is completely impossible to incorporate in my play style in any way outside of vampires. So that's why I voted for it as the worst. OR is a little lacking, yeah (I agree it's probably because it was the first pack), but I like the rustic vibe of the furniture and I use it in a lot of my builds - and I take my sims to Granite Falls every now and then whereas I never visit the creepy vampire world ever, at all. And I think the skill of OR is a lot of fun and I like that it's actually quite difficult to complete because you need to be in GF (because let's face it, most skills are easy to max). It's also a useful skill because you can actually do stuff with the potions, whereas the friggin Pipe Organ is just a joke of a skill, it's just so lame!
The Vampire Knowledge skill is OK, but again only something I do with a sim who wants to become (or is) a vampire.
So fun to do for once, but then never again for me. But perhaps I should revisit the vampires, who knows my mind might change.
Edit: to clarify, I don't, by any means, think Vampires is a bad pack. I'm actually enthusiastic about all the GPs. It's just the one I get the least use out of so therefore it is the worst for me personally."Camkat;c-17502761" wrote:
I hate massages and people I don't know touching me IRL and it makes me cringe for my simmies too. The fact that I will never enjoy this pack is probably more of a me problem though than the pack actually being bad.
Oh, but this pack was so fun! You had saunas, the Wellness skill which added meditation and yoga, and you also could do mud baths and bath soaks with various herbs/aromas. It was very possible to create a Spa that didn't utilize massage, or just make a yoga studio or something similar. I thought this pack added a lot of diversity.- I got Strangerville on sale, and I'm glad I did. It was pretty lackluster. The story wasn't deep enough, and having it be the meat of what was added to the game was disappointing. They could have AT LEAST added a new skill or hobby to go along with it, because bugging people and blackmailing them wasn't going to cut it. The pack basically added the military profession and red-neck CAS and BB items, and that was it.

Outdoor Retreat. It's supposed to be a vacation pack to get your sims out of their normal daily routine, but once you go camping there's really not much to do. We got... tents, horseshoes, cloud gazing, and stuff around the campfire, but not much else.
I guess fishing is nice if your sim wasn't an outdoorsman to begin with. There's also herbalism, but running around collecting plants, bugs, and fish doesn't bring a whole lot to the table. If there was a pack that needed new content, it'd be this one.
Maybe bring back Bigfoot, ax throwing, archery, or have more direct interactions between the Scouting system in Seasons and this pack.
My absolute biggest gripe about Herbalism is the staunch requirement for you to constantly have the required bugs to make things - it's a PITA to have to collect bugs, and it's a terrible skill to raise unless you're using books. I get that making potions in RoM is kind of strict in terms of ingredients, but at the very least you have a shop you can purchase most ingredients from to ease the process.- SennaWales5 years agoRising AceI picked Dine Out because it's a system that has a lot of potential, but doesn't work too well. For the ownership part of gameplay, I would have preferred a slightly more hands-off management style. I did appreciate not having to play as chefs and waiters because that would have been even more micromanagey.
I see that many have picked Vampires. I like that pack a lot, but totally expected many to not like it, because occults have always been a divisive topic. - I chose Dine Out because the restaurants seem to cause lag in my game and the way the Sims behave doesn't seem to fit the whole "restaurant" experience. I want them to stop playing musical chairs and just sit at the table! They got it right with Hot Date for The Sims 1 so no reason why they can't fix this
- Outdoor Retreat is the one game pack I have but don't actually use all that much. Didn't expect it to be the main answer though!
