So would you have played it assuming it was like TS4 when it first launched (no pools, etc.), but it was a MMO?

Absolutely not. The Sims isn't the sort of game that translates into group/online play. I know people played TSO, but they weren't really playing The Sims. The game was designed around "being popular" -- a forerunner to today's social media and networking. Essentially it was a colorful chatroom where people got together. "The Sims" were secondary. You could "skill up" or join with others to do jobs...but there was no real purpose in any of it.
Yes, I tried it. I played twice, found it too boring to endure, and never went back. I would never take part in any online Sims game again.
