Would you like having part time careers in the game?

Idk why but I've always wondered why only the teens can have part time jobs. I'd kind of like it if I could a create slacker-y sim, for example, who wastes his young adulthood stuck in a part time job. Or have my sim parents be able to switch over to a part time schedules when they have kids. With the self-employment feature, we could even have our sims combine the security of a part time job with their first business venture / attempt to become famous, etc. What do you think? Would anyone else enjoy having part time jobs for adult sims in the game?

  • Yes yes yes yes. Part time jobs would be a great addition. I've always wanted to do that with young parents, seniors, Sims who have other profitable hobbies but want to work as well. It would add so much to the game. I'd like if there were options through promotion to really move up, too. Like to full-time, manager, etc.
  • Yeah, more low income jobs like the ones teens have. It would be cool for sims like single parents who can't really pay for a nanny or elders who are technically out of the working field but still want to help support the family or have something to do. Also for sims who are, say, working on becoming a social media star or profesh video gamer (not within the career branch) who haven't quite made it yet and still need to pay the bills somehow.

Edit: rest in peace this is basically a carbon copy of what everyone has been saying. basically: i'm completely down for part time jobs

Not for adults actually, and even careers that have few hours become more demanding over time (and are still mostly daily and mostly take up the same amount of time).

@luthienrising yes agreed they should be rabbit hole careers, like they are for teens. I don't need every career to be active :D how did you do that with Neia's tool? Haven't followed up on that one in a while. Care to share? Also, off topic, when is the live stream tonight again?

Neia's tool is for building rabbit-hole careers. It lets you specify the number of levels and branching points (you can more than 2 branches), job titles, descriptions, work days and hours, pay per hour, skills needed for the next level, and number of vacation days. So I made a few careers that start out or stay part-time, with the kinds of hours an adult, not a teen, might have. IIRC in her thread for the tool in the mods forums here there's a link to a tutorial on how to use it.

Aww I didn't even know that. Last I heard of it Neia was looking for people to test it, but I didn't feel like I'd be of much use there and then I forgot about it. I have to check it out, I'm pretty sure I got it bookmarked somewhere. Thanks for sharing!
  • I used to have a mod that gave all ages the ability to have the teen jobs, but it broke. :( I want this in game.
  • I'd like for adults to have part time jobs, especially for my YA sims because sometimes it feels weird to just put them in a lifelong career right away. For some of my sims, it doesn't matter, but the option would be nice. I'm a bit afraid to mod my game because when I did it with sims 3 the whole thing crashed and just kinda turned me off to the whole thing.
  • I was just thinking about this! It would be so cool to add diversity to the game. I think it could also be a neat challenge to only live off of a part time income.

I think it is a great idea. It is probably really simple to create the code which enables adults to work part time jobs. They were allowed to in sims 3. I was thinking it would be great for mothers who have children: they may work while the child is at school.

I totally agree, especially since there are already part-time jobs for teens. I want my Sim parents home in time to help the kids with their homework. It would also be good for people who want to play rags-to-riches or struggling Sims storylines.
