So, what am I doing wrong? Is it supposed to take about four or five times as long as it takes my author Sim to write a book? I'm talking several sessions of hours long here. It doesn't seem to matter if I click the guitar or the music.

You have to make sure you are clicking the music sheets to "continue writing" otherwise it will start a new sheet from scratch.
