Yikes, the trauma! :(

So, I'm not sure if child sim drowning is enabled in The Sims, or if it was one of my mods, but oh my, what a traumatic day (and not just because I live in the UK and am still ruled by a clueless baffoon :s ).

I'll give you my story...

My sim Benjamin was at university in Britechester studying history (he always dreamed of becoming an archaeologist), when he accidentally got his roommate, Eva, pregnant. She left uni to have the baby, and Benjamin decided to stay to finish his degree. He moved Eva and the new baby, Elliot, to a small house next door to his parents back in Brindleton Bay so that his parents could help to look after them all while the baby was still small. Benjamin and Eva were always really good friends, but there was never really much romance between them. Benjamin always hoped that they would always get together in the end, and planned to move in with them once his final semester at Britechester was done.

But during that final term, Eva met and married another guy, who moved in with them. Benjamin was so sad, but he decided to be the best dad he could. He finished his degree and moved back home to Brindleton Bay to be close to Elliot. But Benjamin was always destined to be an archaeologist, and to be a good archaeologist you have to spend a lot of time in the jungle, so he left on his adventure to do a LOT of excavation. Once he returned home, Elliot was a child, and Benjamin promised that the next time he went to the jungle, he would take Elliot with him, to introduce him to his love of Salvadorada. And thats what he did. Elliot was creative and dreamt of becoming a famous photographer, accompanying his dad on adventures and taking pictures of the sights, and spending time with his dad. Benjamin invited Elliot along on his next adventure, as promised, and they set up camp deep in the jungle, where during the day Benjamin would explore and excavate the temple, and Elliot would play and cloudgaze, and swim, and at night, they would sing songs and tell stories around the camp fire. Elliot was gen 24, and to be the new heir.

But one day, whilst Benjamin was excavating in the depths of the temple, Elliot (who was not part of my household), started screaming from the water inside the temple - he was struggling in the water! Benjamin ran to try and save him, and I clicked everywhere I could possibly think to click, but Elliot's struggling in the water stopped, and he was left face down and lifeless in the water as the Grim Reaper arrived. Benjamin begged the Grim Reaper to spare Elliot's life, he was only a child after all, and this was the first time they'd really spent any time together other than a few hours here and there. But no, Grimmy had made his choice, and Elliot was no more :'(

I've never really had many accidental deaths (all my sims die of old age usually), so I wasn't expecting this at all! I mean, it's great for storytelling, and I always say that I like some realism in my game and TS4 is too light and happy, but jeez! The trauma!! :# :D

  • That was so very sad, asimbsim. Was hoping you would have exited without saving, to have a redo on that one. No?

I decided to let it be this time around. I had a sim die by playfulness a while ago while his twin sons were still toddlers, and I decided to reload a save to keep the family together. But I spent the rest of his life thinking about how he shouldnt really be there, and what a great storyline I could have made :s So I've kept it as is this time around. It was still so sad!

I don't get why people assume kids can't die, why the heck not. I would hate it if they were immortal like toddlers and babies.

If that happened to any of my main Sims, preexisting characters I have a lot of past and future story for, I would exit without saving (had to do that back in TS3 when a child drowned at a public pool while playing that hold your breath game with another Sim). But if it happened to any of my Sims characters that didn't exist until the game, I'd let it be. I'd be devastated if it happened to my favorite born-in-game former townie, because I've integrated him into my main group of characters, and in his case, I'd probably exit without saving, but anyone else, RIP if that happens.

Just because I didn't think they could in TS4. I knew they could in other games, but I thought they'd turned that off in TS4 just because they seem to make everything so light and happy (I mean, we can't have burglars but we can have dead children!? ;) ) I'm not complaining, I enjoyed the twist, I just havent had a child die before so I completely wasn't expecting it :)
  • Nice background but seeing the picture of the kid almost as a star ⭐️ made me lmao???...very tragic
  • Welp on the bright side imagine all the free time you have now that would've been spent taking care of him, but seriously I was kinda in shock too when I realized children can drown in this game, only difference was the fact it wasn't my kid.

What a way to ruin a pool party

EDIT: Weird question but are children immune to poison? If not than that might've been a much better fate than slowly succumbing to the poison and then keeling over.

You took a small child into the deep jungle and went dungeon crawling, what could possibly have gone wrong?

    :D :D :D :D :D Well, when you put it like that.... :# :D :D :D
