You can't take another career branch?

It seems your Sim can only take one career branch. My Sim is in the Chef branch, he quit so he could join the Mixology branch. But the minimum level of the Culinary career he could find is Head Caterer, which is the career you get after choosing the Chef branch. He couldn't get the job at a lower level so as to take the other branch.
I'm really freaking out by this. :'(
  • Yea. This has been brought up and mentioned to the gurus. Til they fix it we have to choose carefully.

That is seriously unfortunate! I just wanted to tell you that the same problem existed in the Sims 3. I had my girl reach the top of the criminal career, and she was on the evil branch and got an aura of evil that made everyone hate her--even her family members, and the family had been so tight knit. That aura was ruining my game, so I made her quit and I wanted her to become a thief. Not only did that fail to work, but my attempt made it that she was unable to take any career after that except the self employed ones :'(

I am sad to hear they still haven't made changes to that. Sims may want to change careers later, and may want to try the other branch. I wouldn't mind playing an immortal sim that spends eternity mastering every career and every branch! lol That would be epic. Please EA, allow our sims to change their minds about these types of things!! Even if it means that they must sacrifice a legendary trait (I can understand if there's a special trait earned for each branch that the game might not want you to have both traits on the same character, but they could just force the special trait to be lost when you earn another career based special trait.)

I know its a pain! I wanted to unlock one of the easels in the painting career as it creates paintings at level 9 but i cant switch career branches so that's not gonna happen :-(

I think I saw the easel you mentioned in the Debug items after using the new cheat to show hidden objects... *goes to check in game for you*

Edit: it's still locked in the DEBUG mode, so you would need to get that mod, or have another sim unlock the easel and "give" it to your sim.

  • I just came into this problem with the Sim I'm currently playing. I thought I was just doing something wrong!
    Hopefully this gets fixed :/
  • Can't you in the mean time try lowering their career level to before they selected the branch?. I haven't tried the cheat so don't know if possible, but if you can do make a back up of the save files before, JIC
  • ???
It is not a bug but the core Sims 4 design.
No sim can max both branches in a career. Once your sim chooses a career branch, the other one is unreachable.
  • Yeah, for the moment I have two main sims, brothers Oran and Liam. I try to sure they always use different career branches.

Oddly enough, I started a brand new file but used my saved Oran/Liam household. They still had all of their completed aspiration, and I had all of the Tech Guru Gamer unlocks. But when I went to find a job, Tech Guru was available to be gone through from the start. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it MIGHT be possible to do every career branch on one sim.
  • Hey guys. You can use the MC Command Center mod to change career branches. I can't post links yet so just Google it :)
  • Quoting my comment from another thread today.

I appreciate the insight, and I'm sure others do too! That said, as this thread's just about 4 years old, it's quite old. Considering this, I'm closing it. Feel free to offer your help elsewhere but try to check how recent the thread is.
