43+ GB of CC not reading in Mods folder anymore

I have been a long-time simmer and I took a break from playing back in November 2024 to now.  I updated the game with the recent update and went in, re-enabled Mods & CC, but the game is no longer recognizing my CC files (the resource.cfg file is also there).  The pathway is correct and has not changed.  I have done everything I can think of to try to fix this, but I am at a complete loss here :(

I have:

  • Repaired the game
  • Clean uninstalled and reinstalled the game
  • removed the localthumbcache file
  • made sure my game and folders were not connected to OneDrive
  • Checked my antivirus to see if anything were interfering
  • Downloaded NEW recently made CC and added that to the folder (removed all of my other CC from the folder as well when testing this)
  • Downloaded a mod manager to check for broken/outdated CC.  I also used the mod manager to make sure the CC was activated
  • Removed Mods folder and allowing the game to make a new one

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am really upset about this; I have been playing since the game came out and have spent a long time amassing this CC :(

    puzzlezaddict​ hi! Thank you so much for taking the time to come over and check out my thread! I actually was able to figure out my issue the other night after Luth sent the link to check out how the game finds the file folder.  My D drive is internal, and a while ago (years ago) I had moved my Documents over to that drive but when I had done so I had done it incorrectly, making my entire Documents folder the D drive rather than just stored on that (if that makes sense) and I had left it that way for a while because I couldn't be bothered to fix it and Sims had no problem finding where I had moved the folder.  BUT I had jusstttt recently fixed that mistake and remembered doing so after Luth sent that link and I replied with the screenshot.  I changed my Documents back to its original location on my C drive, tested the game that way, and it worked! I had seen that the game was seeing the files in the Public Documents folder instead of my personal though, so I had to run a regedit to fix my mistake of incorrectly moving my Documents onto the D drive from long ago.  That solved all of my problems! 😄

    Thank you luthienrising​ for all of your help throughout this and bringing in the extra support from puzzlezaddict as well! 💚

    I just tried your suggestion; it unfortunately still did not work 😔 I have included screenshots of the Mods screen and the new folders and tester CC (just downloaded for testing purposes, it was published today on TSR so it is nice and fresh! 😊)

    I have had this file going for years, I just am so lost on why all of the sudden this would happen 😭

     

    I would like to note though, my game will read script mod files.  I had tested it with MCCC and it populated on the Mods list (not shown here because it wasn't done in this test), but CC still did not show.

    I also checked the GameVersion file as well to make sure the text file and the game displayed the same information, and they did (just to include another method of troubleshooting attempted) 🙂

    The game sees my correct, usual pathway as its user folder in D:/Documents

    xnannyboox​  Luth asked me to take a look at your thread since it looks more like a system issue.  Just to cover all bases, please confirm that the cc you're testing is in exactly the right location by right-clicking a file and selecting Properties > General.  You'll see the Location there.

    Please also let me know whether your D drive is internal or external, and if external, what format it has.  To check, click Windows key-X, select Disk Management, and have a look at the details.

    Finally, I do notice in your most recent screenshot that the file path is odd, in that it has a forward slash after D rather than a back slash like the others.  This isn't standard for Windows: a file path should start with [drive letter]:\ every time.  So maybe this is another symptom of whatever is going on.

    If I can throw this out there for you to look into if you'd like, there's a way to get the game to read your Document in your D drive as opposed to your C drive. There was a video or two on YT that explained how to do that. I had success with it up until my laptop's hard drive died on me (I no longer have that laptop). 

    The only warning I can give you is that if you are not confident with computers or are not a tech savvy person, don't do it. I don't want for you to mess anything up. Well, there's that.
