This exact thing happened to me, and it was so annoying! I search high and low all over the web and forums for an answer, and finally i found a solution. Here is what I did.
- Turn on cheats and find the dead dogs ID numbers using this cheat: sims.get_sim_id_by_name [PlayedPetFirstName] [PlayedPetLastName]. Get each one individually and make sure you copy the number down so you don't forget it.
- summon the dog to your house by using this cheat: sims.summon_sim_to_zone simID
- once both the ghosts of the dogs are at the lot, add them to your family (shift click on them, press add to family)
- Then you can take them to the vets, buy ambrosia treats for both of them and bring them back to life
- they will come back to life as elders, so will live in that stage for a bit, and eventually die of old age, leaving you with the urn/gravestone.
If you want them to die immediately then you can find cheats to kill them: traits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge [Pet ID]

How do I get dog to eat ambrosia?
@Carlz916 For a pet you don't feed them regular ambrosia... The Sim can serve a deceased pet an ambrosia (pet) treat to 'resurrect' them. Go to the vet's vending machine and purchase an ambrosia treat (made for pets). With this treat in the Sim's personal inventory have them go to interactions with the pet's ghost and under 'friendly interactions' you should find 'give ambrosia treat'.

I tried this & really thought it was going to work, but sadly it said “sim not found”.
Hmm, if I remember correctly I think it said that on mine a few times too. Make sure you didn't make any small mistakes while typing the cheats, as there are a lot of little details! It could've been something as small as a space. Either way, let me know! I hope you manage to get the dogs back 🙂

the summoning part wont work for me, any suggestions? edit: never mind the pet just kept disappearing while i was spawning it, had to pause the game while spawning :D ty!!

Hi, I just wanted to let you know you are a LIFESAVER, as I have a Sim I have been playing with for YEARS and her and her cat are just immortal and have been companions for ages and I keep feeding both of them potions of youth and age down treats and all was well... then I went to uni, came back and my pet was gone, no urn anywhere, I genuinely almost cried, searched Google for help, found your very helpful guide and managed to spawn him and make him alive again!!! Thank you so much for this, my beloved Magnus is grateful for your guidance!!!
