Can't get out of build mode

I've just opened the Sims 4 to play, and when i loaded my family the game went straight to build mode. I thought nothing of this and clicked the live mode button. The game then went back to live mode, but after under a secon it went back to build mode. I tried using both the live mode button and the F1 button multiple times to try and get permanently back to live mode, without results. I also tried exiting to the main menu and loading both the same and another family, with the same result. I then tried restarting the game, but again I'm stuck in build mode. Please help me, I have no clue what to do!

Edit: 

I just went back to the game to try and figure it out, and have now realised that while I am in build mode I can't move or place any objects. When i hover over something with the cursor it turns into the hand thing, but when i click it becomes a cursor again and i can't move it. Nothing happens when i try to buy things either, i can't get the thing I want out of the build mode menu

    @crochetpianist  It sounds like you may have a corrupt or outdated mod.  Start by removing any mods that change the user interface (e.g. UI Cheats) or any by TwistedMexi, and delete localthumbcache.package as well.  If that doesn't help, or you don't have those mods, move the entire Mods folder to the desktop and test.

    If the game is back to normal, you can start adding back your mods and testing.  Depending on how many mods you have, it might be easier to download fresh copies of any that are listed as compatible with the current patch (1.89) and go from there.

    If you see the same issue with no mods present at all, try repairing the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.

    Hi! Thanks for wanting to help! I play completely without mods or cc though, so that can’t be the problem.

    @crochetpianist  Did you try repairing the game?  Does this happen if you load a different, never-played household within the same save, or a different save entirely?

    i repaired my game multiple times. taken out all mods. the fn + f5 doesn’t work. it keeps happening. so confused and it’s sucks balls ☹️
