Hair files tend to be so big that they can cause a *lot* of lag. The more detailed the hair, the more likely it is to lag. Hair often has a large polycount (which means that the computer has to map out and show a lot more tiny pieces) and large file size (which slows it down in other ways.) So, it's not surprising a hair like that would slow things down.
Another type of CC that can slow things down is jewelry because so many of those are also high polycount.
