If you happened to take that household into CAS, then any sims over 8 will have been culled. While there are several mods that allow you to have and play more than 8 sims in a household in live mode, none that I know of will allow you to take a household of more than 8 sims into CAS without randomly culling the "extras" every time you do. CAS simply won't allow you to exceed 8 sims.
