Discover Uni wiped out my inventory??! Help pls

I had 2 of my Sims in University and one got Suspended *eyeroll* after being on Probation *eyeroll again* (she had a fairly good GPA and was studying/doing homework all the time, don't understand it, honestly). But I had to move her out until she can re-enroll.. so I put her laptop and a few personal items I brought from her OG home before she attended into her inventory. When I moved her out, I got a notification that her laptop was "moved back to household inventory or inventory of household where item came from". I checked her inventory and its COMPLETETLY EMPTY. she had a bundle of other things in there like pictures she had taken, books, art pieces she made... its all GONE. so I went back to the university to see if it went there and its not, neither is her sisters laptop that I also bought her (didn't think to check her inventory, though I probably should have)??? I'm so confused?? I don't know how to get it back or where it went? why did this happen?? UGH. 

none of the previous topics about this helped bc they were specific to harvestables, which I have none and they were from 2018-2020.. we've had many updates and patches since then. I just recently had to "repair" my game bc of some other garbage issues after the last update. 

this is very frustrating. its my first time using the discover university pack... I have most of the packs/expansions they've released.. no mods, very little cc (eyelashes, like 4 shirts, 4 shoes, and a few hairstyles.. I'm a baby with it, lol). I feel like every time I play (which is maybe 1-2 times every 2 weeks, give or take, depending on the week), there's always a new problem and I spend more time trying to figure out what it is/how to fix it than enjoying the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
