Game freezes when selecting traits and age

Is anyone having a problem when in create a household/sim?

I play on PC but when I click to select a new trait or change the sims age, when you click off the panel does not disappear. It then does not allow me to select clothing or anything like that. I have the same issue if I then click into another sim - the trait and age/name panel does not disappear.

Have deleted all my mods - I have cc, but it's all up to date. Have also done a repair on my game and still having the same issues.

  • @xbrownbarbie It looks like there still an outdated UI mod there. Try testing "vanilla": Exit Sims 4 then drag your Mods folder to your desktop. Then delete the file called localthumbcache from Document > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4. If you think you might accidentally forget to exit without saving after testing, copy your Saves folder to your desktop too, to back it up. Now open Sims 4 and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, you can start the process of figuring out what from your Mods folder was causing it.

To find the culprit, add content back into the new Mods folder in bunches. If it works for a bunch, move that bunch back out to a folder marked "Tested" and tray another one.

Hi! Thanks for your help, but even with doing all of the above the problem still persists.

Guessing this means it’s an EA issue, as opposed to my particular game?

That seems really unlikely. Try doing a test on a freshly generated game folder in a new save, again with no mods. This time drag the whole The Sims 4 folder from Electronic Arts to your desktop and start the game to make a new one, in a "New Game." You'll need to reset your preferences in Options, as part of the goal here is start that settings file fresh.

If you don't have the issue, see if putting your old save into the new Saves file (without mods) works. Don't save, though! You're still testing. If that doesn't work, there's an issue in the save itself. You can try an earlier version of it.

If it does work, try putting small batches of mods and CC back in. Make sure that you've not got any duplicates and that they're all installed as directed by the creators.

@luthienrising after a bit more research seems like this is an ongoing bug from March this year, that’s still not resolved lol

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Wrong-names-and-CAS-Corruption-after-gaining-a-4th-trait/m-p/12395752#M243114

The problem seems to be I’ve saved a household I’ve been playing with where they’ve gained additional traits, and where I’m then trying to edit them as a new household the game isn’t liking it.

Known bug, fortunately not my save (phew!). Thanks for trying to figure it out for me though. 😊

Will just have to start from a household where they haven’t gained additional traits through gameplay.

@xbrownbarbieOh, that would do it! So sorry you ran into that one! There isn't even a bugfix mod for it. However, I strongly advise rolling back to an earlier version of your save, not just changing households. And move the corrupted file out of Saves.
