Game keeps freezing

I play on windows and every time I try to play in a household in my save file, the game freezes after a minute. Time stops and my sims stop moving, but I can still move the screen around. I tried repairing the game and it did not work. I also removed my mods and it did not help. The game doesn’t stay active long enough for Better Exceptions to work and scan my cc. Any help?? 😓

  • avocadoes12  Does this happen with no mods or custom content present?  Please remove your Mods folder and test; you don't need to save your progress.

If this still happens with your main household, test a different one, and if that's fine, test your main one again but on a different lot.  You don't need to save here either.

If the freezing happens in all of the above circumstances, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

My game works perfectly fine with my mods folder removed. A few days ago I got new cc, so it must be that. Without an organized cc folder (lol) what should be my next course of action? Gradually adding my folders back and seeing which one causes issues?

  • avocadoes12  You can add the mods and cc back in batches, or use the 50/50 method:

You might also be able to find your downloads listed in your browser history, or maybe the cc was zipped and you trashed the .zip files but didn't empty the recycle bin.  Either way, you could find the names of the items you downloaded and remove only those from your Mods folder, at least as a first step.

I’ve been adding my mods and cc back in batches and have come to the conclusion that it is just one household causing the issue. I tried with other save files and households and my main one seems to be the only one with crashing issues. What should my next approach be?

  • avocadoes12  Does this household freeze the game with no mods or custom content present?  Please test and let me know.  If it does, then move the household to a different lot and test there.  You don't need to save your progress.
