Holiday on Repeat

A while back, I created a holiday that was right after New Years Eve. It was New Years Day; a custom holiday. The holidays passed and was great, but then weird stuff started to happen. It took me a while to realize it, but it seemed like every day was New Years Day. It wouldn't show up on the calendar, but it would be an event that started every single day.

As soon as I realized this, I started clicking on the X to cancel the holiday. It would pop up again, with a blue square over the icon. I press the X again and it's gone for good... until I move to another lot, or switch households; then I have to cancel it multiple times again.

What's even more annoying is that it'll interrupt other holidays going on. Like if it's Love Day, New Years will pop up. And then when I go to cancel it, Love Day won't come back up for awhile.

I've tried removing all mods. Didn't work.

I've tried repairing my game. Didn't work.

Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Hi guys! I'm sorry I haven't seen your replies until recently. I'm still having this issue with my game unfortunately. I've tried removing my localthumbcache file, removing the Mods folder, AND repairing the game once again. Still didn't do anything. I've tried reverting to a save that was before I made the custom holiday, and oddly enough, the same problem occurred. It didn't happen when I made an entirely new save, however.

I saw one person post that there were holiday glitches reported when people have changed the game speed. That actually rings a bell for me, since before creating the new holiday, I do remember using MC Command Center to make the days longer. I shortly changed the game speed back to the default though, since the days were going way too slow for me. I ended up making "New Years Day" way later, after I've already overwritten all my older saves.

I hope my save files aren't permanently corrupted, although that seems be the case right now. 😢

@PugLove888 you're absolutely right! Nobody expects you to be online 24/7 😉 And I'm also happy @RandomBuzziness was able to help out 🙂 I haven't been here for very long and have seen/read far from everything so I'm sorry if I overlooked @SheriGR! With all the helpful people here, it's hard to keep track of who's doing/saying what 🙂 Especialy if you're new, like me 😉 I'm sure I'll learn in time 🙂
(Sorry if I'm not making much sense right now, my brain is refusing to cooperate atm 😳 )

Hahaha I love that movie too! It was the first thing I thought about when I read the post 😃

@anneke33, yes I would have been able to help had I been on the computer at the time you posted, but I was doing other things at the time! 😃  Thankfully @RandomBuzziness  was able to help 🙌 so you didn't have to wait for me! 😳  And @RandomBuzziness  is correct in that @SheriGR is also very helpful !😇

@NiaraTiara, The best procedure is to move the Mods folder to your desktop, then delete the localthumbcache.package file like @RandomBuzziness mentioned. Also for extra safe measure is to Repair your game through Origin.
Then you can add your Mods and CC back one by one, starting your game after adding each one to test each Mod or CC item.  But if you have a lot of CC, then you might want to do the 50/50 Method and test a larger batch of them at a time.  Once you find which Mod or CC is the culprit, you can then go back to whoever created it and see if they have an updated version (if they do, you can download that one).  If they don't have a new one, then you should just forget that Mod or CC as if they are never updated, they will continue to mess up your game! 😢

You should do this after each time your game acts up, especially after a patch is released by EA, as that is when a lot of Mods/CC become outdated!  We are getting a new Stuff Pack next week, so we will probably be getting a another patch from EA later this week!  You might want to wait until after that to complete your testing! 🤔

Please update us on if this fixes your problem or not! 😇

And @anneke33 , I was thinking before I saw your post that it was a shame that the broken holiday wasn't Groundhog Day! 😃  Love that movie! ❤️

@RandomBuzziness you're both awesome, it was just a guessing game as to who would see and reply to the post first 😉 I guessed wrong, haha 😃

@NiaraTiara Now, I have plenty of custom holidays in my calendar and mods in my folder, but I have never seen or heard of anything like your "Groundhog Day" experience, as @anneke33 put it.

What truly worries me here is your description of the "blue square" over the holiday icon. Blue squares or pink circles visible on screen have in many instances in the past indicated a deeply broken mod and/or a corrupted save game file. It's also been linked to outdated CC before, which doesn't seem like it would cause a holiday issue, but I honestly would remove it all, just to make sure.

I really hope that deleting the localthumbscache file solves your issue, because if it does not, your only other option may be to revert to an older save game BEFORE you've created that custom holiday (I know... that would suck, if at all possible). Spot on for @RandomBuzziness for suspecting a change of game-time-speed, because that could indeed lead to various sync-glitches within your calendar!

Basically, we need feedback from you at this point to make any further speculations/suggestions on how to solve this.

EDIT: A last resort option: Try changing the length of seasons in game options, Save As and then change the season length back. Be aware that this will throw all your holidays off and you may not want to edit all of that, but this has fixed various calendar issues before.

@NiaraTiara  I haven't read anywhere of this particular problem but I have heard of other issues with holidays when using any mod to change the game speed. @anneke33 is correct, after temporarily removing all mods or CC in your game, you should also clear old cached content in case anything from the Mods or CC is still hanging around in your game (thanks @SheriGR for this information). You can do this by deleting the localthumbcache.package file in your Sims 4 folder. It's perfectly safe to delete this file as the game will auto-generate a new one the next time you launch Sims 4. I always delete the localthumbcache.package file any time I make a change to my Mods folder.

Please let us know if this fixes your problem. If so, you might be able to re-install your mods, as long as you keep the game speed at the default setting. Make sure you are using the most current versions available first. If this does not fix your problem, let us know that as well as there are other things you can try.

    I hope this helps!

  • The sim-equivalent of Groundhog day (the movie)! 🤔

Have you checked your calendar to see if it shows up in there? You probably have but it doesn't hurt to ask, right? 🙂

I think just removing mods and repairing your game isn't enough :/ I'm no expert, as I don't use mods or cc myself, but I believe you also have to clear out your cache by deleting - or moving - certain folders in your game and then repair it, after those folders are gone.
I can't tell you exacly which folders but I'm sure @PugLove888 will be able to help you with that. I'm sure some who knows exactly what to do wil be on later. Maybe it's best to wait for detailed instructions before you try it, I wouldn't want you to delete something important just because I don't know exactly which folders have to be removed.

I hope you get your game working properly again! Good luck!
